Two years ago, I organised a PH trip to the Royal Air Force Museum at Hendon.
I offered myself as a "tour guide" for the visit and I thought it all went very well - even if I say so myself smile

I was wondering if there would be any interest in a similar type of expedition to the Imperial War Mueseum at Duxford?
I would be happy again to offer myself as a guide/host/expert nerdI am fairly well versed on the aircraft on display at Duxford and the history of the airfield.
The major difference between Duxford and Hendon is that Duxford charges an entrance fee whereas Hendon is Free Admission.
I would intend to have this event on a "non-air display day" as these are less busy and are less crowded.
I was thinking of a Saturday or Sunday in June or July.

If there is a good response, perhaps the mods might make this a "sticky".
I'm not altogether sure exactly which forum in which I should post this so I have put it in both "Boats, Planes and Trains" and "The Lounge".

The danger with putting it in a "specialist" forum only is that people might miss it.

I'd certainly be interested if I'm not busy.

Haven't been there since I was a kid, just need an excuse to go again which I may have just found!

I'm going for the Rover P5 National gathering on 2nd August so it would be brilliant if it was that day biggrin

As part of a car club we have an entrance fee discount to £9.00 per person. Maybe you could piggy back this event?

I'd rather not - not because the Rover chaps aren't nice guys, but they might have other activities organised for their members. Unless, of course, they all wanted to tag along to listen to me as well smile

I'll almost guarantee that most of them would love to. This was a very popular venue a few years ago as a stge for the P5 National. Most of the owners, due to the nature of the cars, are more 'mature'.

If you'd be willing to host a guided tour I'm sure we could arrange a list so that it doesn't get out of hand.

Pretty please!

Im in and Im sure my FiL (ex RAF) will be too. Before retirement recently (overseas commercial) he tried to get to Duxford when back home. Now he has time on his hands he wants to drag me round as many shows/airfields as possible. Looks like Im going to have a busy summer smile

Eric, what can you tell me about the Lancaster Just Jane? The FiL has a facination with Lancs and as a surprise Mrs Fubes wants to buy him a taxi run (he being a Lincolnshire lad too, can stomp the old grounds while up there). Have you or do you know anyone who has done this? Worth doing?

I can but recommend you this month's "Flypast" magazine which has a whole history of Just Jane and speculation as to whether she might be restored to flying condition.

There will be an aerobatic competition at Duxford on 6/7th June, so if you pick that weekend there may well be some structured hooliganism going on in the overhead, but without the crowds that a full display weekend would attract. I will not, however, be repeating last year's attempt at inventing new terms for uncommanded tumbling in the Yak, partly because the poor thing doesn't deserve that sort of treatment, and partly because this year the competition is only for Advanced and Unlimited types, and I have yet to get signed off at Advanced, and time is running short....but I'll be there anyway, along with MAXG and YAKH, probably.

I'd still love to do this but we are having a family illness problem at the moment. I cannot really commit to organising such an event for the next few weeks.

Hopefully, matters will be more clear in August and I'll be better able to see if sometime in August or September is feasible.

It's my brother in law - who we are kind of looking after at the moment. He was diagnosed with a seriously underactive thyroid just over a month ago and his condition was VERY poor. There has been a huge improvement since he started his medication but I think it will be a couple of weeks at least before he will be trusted to look after himself properly.

Sorry to hear that Eric.
I was diagnosed two years ago, 2 months ago I was advised that I needed to double medication, not the best of news to get, I hope things are on the up for your BiL
