Lunch or Dinner?

I say both, depending on how the sentence is strung together, but my OH hates me saying dinner, so obviously, to keep up the agony I now intentionally say dinner every time im talking about the meal in the middle of the day.

Which do you say? and what is the difference? really.

Dinner refers to the main meal of the day.

Historically Northerners would have their main meal at lunchtime, whereas Southerners would have their main meal in the evening.

Hence the Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner; Breakfast, Dinner and Tea disparity.

I say lunch.

I have noticed that people from 'up north' call it dinner.

It confuses me though, when people ask what I am having for dinner, I tell them that I might have a pizza or some pasta, and they then wonder why I am eating sandwhiches?

Dinner is late in the evening with a glass or three of vino. Lunch mid day and tea sort of inbetween. Ofcourse you forget brunch brekfast elevenses and snacks to add to the daily eat.

Which meal did the "Dinner Ladies" serve at school? used to be "Dinner" when I was a lad, around midayish.

Don't think we used the term "Lunch", wern't posh enough for that....... but when I get home at night now I ask the other half "Whats for tea then?", meaning the evening meal...... myself.
