Oil temp not getting past 50?

Just wondering if anybody else's oil temp doesn't get that high. After 45 mins getting out of London yesterday the temp was still only 55. Then went down to about 40 on the M25. Got to the M4 and thought 'it must be warmed up by now' so started playing. Temp still only reached about 58, then when i took it easy for a few miles went back down to 43-44 ish. Same sort of thing today, about an hour driving around town getting shopping and stuff, then a bit of a run out temp at about 55, then total ragging, temp only got up to about 59.
What could cause this? The book says 80-120 is normal, im no where near that, water temp gets there fine. Oil pressure is fine ranges from about 22 at idle to 70-80 when giving it some.
Should i get it looked at?

There can be quite a variation in the sensors or it might be bust. Mine shows a lower temp when on the motorway I guess this is the air cooling effect. Not sure where or how easy it is to change the sensor (might be in the sump?) but should be prety cheap to changeWhat could cause this? When you come out to the car and its been left for along time what does it read?
With mine, if i go to it the oil will be 0 degrees and the water around 14 ish before i have started it (obviously depending on outside temp but the difference is alway similar). Mine also never gets much above 50, and due to the temp difference at cold i presume it under reads by at least 10 degrees compared to the water temp.

Mines usually 10-15 when left overnight. Goes to 40-50 within about 4 to 5 mile and then rises depending upon the road.
On a motorway it can sit at high 50's due to the air flow. If Im in slow traffic it can go up to as high as 70-80.
Staying in the 40's seems very low.

Thats correct but be aware that A-road or M/way driving will only see about 50-60 due to the air cooling the sensor. What temp does it show on idle after about 15 minutes of driving?
Your oil temp and air temp should be roughly the same when the engine is cold, if not then the sensor may well be under reading which is a very common problem!
Went to str8 six and spoke to Jason today. He said not to worry to much about it, apparently the engines are over efficient at cooling the oil. As long as its been warmed up for 20-30 mins it'll be fine in the 50's. He also said to never let it idle when first started, as it can overstress the cams and followers, just get in it a drive easy for a while, will be following that advice.
