I am looking for a cheap run around to be used on weekends (i catch the train to work) to visit family & friends and generally use to get any camping / mountain biking kit to wherever I want to go.

I've been offered a tidy 2 owner Focus TDCI with 124k on the clock for £1500. What are these engines like once they've seen a few miles?

I am not fussed by higher mileage cars as such, particularly as I wont put too many miles on it but wondering whether these engines are solid.

Yeah I wouldn't hold back if the car has the history etc to go with it. The engine's based on the old 1.8 Lynx unit, only in TDCI form the cambelt only goes from pump to camshaft, as the crank to pump is driven by a chain cassette. Check that the cambelt has been done...no big deal if it hasn't, haggle and get it done....it's not pricey compared with most)
Not the most fun, refined or speedy unit, but it's a dependable old thing. I work at a Ford dealer, and the most common thing overall we sell for a Focus are.....door mirrors!

Says it all really.
