Well, instead of selling my 'Rat GTR' I've decided to spend a wad of cash on it instead...

This time I'm going to ditch my 400hp quad cam 32 vavle LT5 for a fresh LS2. Why?

Well basically I'm figuring I can run the 6.0 litre LS2 (420hp with slight mods) then later get the magician Kyle to fit a Supercharger as sadly there's no blower option for the LT5 so you're capped at 450bhp.

Will miss the pops, bangs and flames from the LT5 though and she's been a reliable old bus even if it has a constant loss oil system.

Will post pictures of the transplant starting in June...

Oh, hoping to do something different with exhaust layout as I've never been a fan of the pipes running through the engine bay (mine run underneath currently).

Can Am Dave is the magician im just a spanner monkey but yes it should be a big improvement!!

If ProCharger pull their finger out and finish the LSX kits we shall be able to crack on!!

ps..... the first LS3 went in an Ultima yesterday with a G50 20 bolted on but the old ProCharger is going to be veeeerrrrryyyyyy tight!! but an HONEST 650bhp cant be easy can it???

The engine will also have an all steel bottom end(Callies) and be capable of over 800bhp with mapping and pulley changes!!

Ill post some pictures if anyone is interested?? That Can Am Dave has a lot to answer for he said 'i did it in a Can Am it should be easy in a GTR'..... yeah right

Gulf-LS2 i heard the procharger is now avaliable (same mounting location as SBC)....

the LS3s def make a lot of power! time to try and get a F2 blower and some forged internals in there! smile

We are building a LS3 with Callies internals which we hope will make 800+bhp with a D1sc blower, the F2 wont wont fit without major surgery!! You are power hungry?? the LSX kit with a rib belt will support 900bhp, you could'nt want more than that??? in an Ultima that would be bonkers.

I think this has been asked before, but what sort of £££ are you looking at for a 650ish hp LS3?

Is it a worthwhile saving over a similar power LS7? Not keen on blowers initially, so am looking at an N/A lump.

I dont think there is a huge initial cost difference between the two but.....the smaller motor can be built with greater power handling capacity (forged internals etc) thus enabling future 'boost tweeking' to suit the intended use, all for similar cost. Another plus going the charger route is that the original 'street manners' of the engine are retained. In any N/A engine when you want to increase power by more than 10-15% you will lose some of its original low-end drive manners and economy.
I love the old 'cam and carbs grunty motors' but have to admit defeat on this one...the Procharger route is a far more pleasant, useable end product.

There you go Kyle...........an admission from the 'old school department'!

It's just fashion they'll all be wanting carbs in 5 years time with a nice simple cheap engine with few electrics and £185 road tax !!! [joke] .

Dave is right....

an honest n/a 650 out of a LS3 or any LS will be expensive and as Dave said detract from it driveability and thus enjoyment imo. The ProCharger offers 650 bhp out of a stock LS3 and it will not detract from its road manners ie
you can still keep the cam mild for nice smooth pootling around town but if you floor it all hell will break losesmokin you will still also be able to get good economy from the LS as you can run off boost for motorway cruising, imo it offers everything we need, noise, power, driveability, economy and kudos??

just need to get one to bloody fit now and ProCharger to hurry up and ship the units!!

I’ve just had a look at the Procharger site. As i wasn’t too familiar with what it was. Is this the right link?
http://www.procharger.com/LS3_vette.shtml

if fitment is an issue due to the way the blower mounts you might be able to get something from these guys
http://www.capa.com.au/kits_holden.htm
the blower generally mounts the other way – similar to Canam Daves set up.

Edited to add, doesn’t the LT5 have a reverse flow water pump – i.e. you will need to swap the water hoses.

hi Ryan

they are just finishing off a new kit, LSX serpentine system(should of been finished in Feb) which sits as close to the head as possible.... this is the one we are going for but its going to be very very tight!! looking at the front of the engine we will be mounting the blower top right hand corner (same as Mr Can Ams), we are also waiting on some Callies bits and bobs to allow us to build a steel bottom end and drop the CF. Quite exciting but it hard getting everything arranged.

They have a new LS mounting braket that stick the SC in the same location as the SBC. its for the LS swap guys.

Was only joking mate! wink

D1sc should support more than most peoples needs. What are you doing for intercooling?? sounds like a very stout forged bottom end. any plans to fit under piston oil squirters?

also be nice to see what a 416 (LS3 with 4.00inch storke) would be like. smile

Chris.
