Home made fish and chips
Discussion
In the old days you could never beat the fish and chippy but now, with them serving such thin weedy fish due to the cost of decent fish you can at least give them a run for their money. I still used the chips from chip shop as they have that unique taste but did my fish which was nice and thick and home cooked. Fantastic.

That looked GOOD!
I'd LOVE to have a go at my own deep fried battered fish.
Sadly the Mrs cannot eat fish. So I only get it when we go out...
Next time, though, do your own chips too.
My ex was the same with fish and the current one is slowly getting her head round eating fish... no shellfish... just normal fish and as long as she doesnt see it before its prepped. Strange when its her choice, but will happily eat a bunny.I'd LOVE to have a go at my own deep fried battered fish.

How good does that look?
I've thought about getting one of those fryers but thought it might get relegated to the cupboard like nearly every other appliance I've bought, and being scottish, folk would think that I cooked breakfast, lunch and dinner in the thing.
That looks absolutely fantastic. How was the batter? nice n crispy? did you add ale to it?
So many questions.... but lets not miss the fact there are EBC products beside the fryer.
You're a true credit to PH!

Looks great. Quality of the fish cookery is often the biggest let down but should be the biggest pleasure of the dish.
Re: the Stella. I had always assumed that the 'wifebeater' moniker came from hitting your wife with your bare hands after drinking the strong lager. But looking at the photo, you seem to have hit your Mrs with the can itself before opening. Does anyone else use this variation?

Thanks guys for the kind comments.
I do do home made chips but to be honest you can't make them taste like chippy chips even though they taste better .. if you know what I mean.
The batter was simple plain flour and cold water, not even sparkling or soda and it was really crispy. I think that for that size of fish you need a larger amount of oil, in this case 4.5l so it does not go soft. It was 5 minutes at 150C and then 190C until golden. Slightly too golden if I am honest.
I have to use the shed as my wife complains about the smell. My tins were all crushed as my Tesco's plastic bag split as i was getting out of the car ...
