Hi, im new to this and i need your advice! Considering an M3 E92 new? Never driven a BMW before, stuck with audi always! Will i be pleased with it and always be smiling? Never gone for a "sports" car as such. Test driving one tomorrow, any advice regarding spec, mpg, etc would be much appreciated!
There's alot to consider; Coupe/saloon/convertible(or are you only looking at a coupe by your topic title E92...lots of people really like the saloon and many prefer it in it's looks to the coupe) - manual or DCT for starters...EDC or non EDC.
Buying a new one...brave, there's a good lease deal being done by BMW on new coupes at the moment; there's a thread on here about it somewhere.
I bought mine 6-7 months ago; it was just over a year old; fantastic car; the engine is truly incredible.
MPG - I wouldn't get hung up on it; if it's a concern then don't buy it, as a four litre V8 with 414bhp is never going to be frugal.
I would look at a nearly new on; prices do seem to have firmed up a little; I was seriously expecting there to be plenty around at the 29,995 mark by now for the early 07/57 plate cars but they're still >31-32k. Can't see that lasting long.
Many audi owners won't like the interior; but as a car for all seasons (bar the snowy season) then it's a great piece of kit and is hard to beat all round.

Make sure you have a good lond test drive as the car takes a little time to get used to, then the quicker you go the more it shrinks around you.
Don't think about mpg too much. If that is a big consideration for you then I would avoid this car. Bank on around 19mpg. As said, the interior is not up to Audi standards but is nice. Perfomance is mind boggling when reaching into the upper reaches of the rev range and peak power comes in at 8300rpm. Having said that, the car is easy to drive at low speeds and is happy to pootle around town.
Make sure you try all of the EDC settings on the car you are test driving (if fitted). I ordered mine a couple of weeks ago and cannot wait until it arrives. If you are going to a dealer ask about the plan BMW are doing at the moment as it works out quite well.

Im thinking between a convertible or a coupe! being female i hope i mange to drive it well! lol! it would be DCT, what is EDC and is it worth it? the dealer was supposed to call back today to let me know if he'd sourced one foe me to test drive and nothing.. still waiting for his bloody call! its really pissing me off feel their customer service is s

I would say it is worth it and have ordered it for my car especially if you have to travel along badly surfaced roads. I don't know anything about DCT as I will always have a manual transmission.

The dealership where I placed my order could not do enough for me and have been profesional and curtious throughout. If you live around the East of England I can reccommed Lister BMW of Kings Lynn wholeheartedly.

Personally id tell the dealer to feck off,I cant stand how they represent BMW's superb cars in such an arrogant manner!Best off buying at a specialist or private.
t n thats already puttin me off! lol!I doubt the EDC would ever be used if its purely a road car,but the DCT is a must have especially for commuting.
still waiting for his call! i honestly give up already ,im up in Glasgow! i agree they were arrogant and made me feel slightly uncomfortable! i will test drive with EDC and try it out but considering going to another dealer now. im really cheesed off! and yeah i also looked up that plan that BMW is doing on M3 coupes! its contract hire. hmmm. never hired before.. dunno if its a good idea to do so or not.. there is always some friggin catch somewhere!
Hi N-N, I would seriously look at contract hire. A new M3 takes a massive hit on depreciation in the first few years. The residual values of higher value cars have taken a pounding in the current financial climate. As an example a coupe costing £55K eighteen months ago is probably woth £30K now depending on spec and mileage, may be less.
The second option is to buy a pre-reg or nearly new e.g. as close to your spec as possible but with a few thousand miles. You will be able to pick them up with massive discounts at least £5K usually a lot more. However if the figures/depreciation stacks up for you on a new purchase then go for it.
It's a shame you're getting the run around on sorting a test drive. I'm surprised they don't have a demo in stock. You might want to put a call into the new car sales manager of the dealership who let you down. I'm sure he will kick some bottom to sell you a car and usually gets you more discount and a few freebies.

they are such asses! so much for the test drive i was supposed to have today! i would have thought these frickin dealers would kissing my ass considering what the current climate is like! will let you know how i get on.. and i will ask about the hire also.. if they ever get back to me that is!! cant beleive they dont have a bloody demo!
