Anyone on hear bought a watch from abroad and not received it. Im only asking as im about to pull the trigger on a watch in Cyprus and im a little twitchy.

Basically it got me thinking what can you do if nothing arrives, cannot see the police wanting to get involved. I know its the old scenario of buying the seller, but someone must get caught out now and then.

Is the watch that rare, that you can't find one here. Or the deal that good, that you can't get a similair deal here?
What method of delivery are you proposing to use what sort of cover will it offer?

With regard to the Police, I bought an item from a UK seller on eBay. The seller sent me a worthless item instead of a £1000 watch. I reported the matter to the Police, and they categorically refused to do anything. So don't expect any help from our BiB.

If it's cheap enough for you to sustain a 100% loss that won't bother you, gor for it. If it's expensive or very rare, then fly out and buy it in person.....

I buy from abroad all the time, but mainly from the well established members of the watch fora I visit.

Never had any problems so far, except occasionally getting hit for customs / VAT charges, as I did today.

Only occasionally? I get hit every time, so I have pretty much given up buying from abroad. It makes me wonder if the Customs guys have my name on a secret database somewhere...

I (used to) bring in lots of stuff from overseas. It appears to depend on which courier is used as to whether I ever had to pay duty. Some are more stringent, possibly as they add a large 'Admin Fee' on top too!
