Im in giffnock which isnt a million miles away. Clarkston is quite nice, parking is a nightmare though, its mainly narrow streets with tenements, the streets were never designed to have that many cars which was one of the main reasons I bought a house in giffnock instead of a flat in clarkston.

Potential for nights out nearby, without going into Glasgow?

shawlands is nearby and has loads of pubs plus the legendary "shed" nightclub which is basically a cattle market of young birds wearing sod all, theyre usually not neds either! theres a train line that runs into central station too and a taxi home at night wont cost too much as I think clarkston is within the boundary charge line.

Shawlands nearby? I'd say not - convenient enough if you live in Giffnock but not for Clarkston.

The last train to Clarkston will be about midnight. Even I'm not that old to go home at that time on a decent night out.

Clarkston is outside the boundary. Muirend/Giffnock (about the Tinto Firs) is the Glasgow boundary. Reckon on about £20 from Glasgow city centre. Late night buses run through there though.

The Shed is good.. an old school friend of my brother owns it.

From the questions you pose I'd quite happily say it's NOT the place for you.

It's not been the Tinto Firs for years, but I still call it that too!

HalfAmo, Shawlands seems to have more of what you're wanting in terms of nightlife and access to town, although it's mostly tenement-style flats so parking could be difficult, although a few of the newer developments have private parking (their only benefit, as they look crap compared to the solid sandstone tenements).

If you want more space and your budget can stretch to it, getting a place in Newlands, Giffnock or Newton Mearns is probably the best balance of access to nightlife and space for your motor.
