Hi Guys,

My girlfriends 51 TT 180 needs a new engine due to reaching 110K.
Where is the best place to source one and any ideas on costs?

'Due to reaching 110k'? Is there anything actually wrong with it?

Crank shaft is seized and there are additonal problems with it.
Been told it will be easier and probably cheaper in the long run to replace the whole lump.

Breaker's yard would be one of the first places I'd look, in tandem with the same places using ebay to advertise themselves.

Put one in a 150bhp a3 a couple of months ago came to £2400 with everything inc a clutch (worth doing while engines out) that was fully fitted and inc a surcheage (£250)as the block had a rather large hole in it where the rod made a bid for freedom.

Yours would be a bit dearer though as with the 4wd system it makes it a longer/ harder job to do.

I know it sounds a bit strange but but are you sure it has siezed? We had a golf in a while age which looked to have a siezed engine until we disconnected the aux drive belt, turned out the a/c pump had siezed and the belt had so much grip the starter nor me with a spanner had the strengh to turn the engine!

A 180PS Audi TT might be FWD.

good point in which case would be a very similar price. This was for a fully remanufactured engine though so could get cheaper
