I've done a little research and convinced myself that I would prefer the sound of my car, a 111S, if I had a Larini Club Sport exhaust system fitted. However, while out and about this afternoon I heard an exhaust note that sounded "sweet". The problem is that the car sporting said exhaust was a "chaved" up Saxo.
Each to his own, "whatever floats you boat" as they say. Now, would I be "chaving" up my Lotus? Lets face it the performance wouldn't increase would it? So I'd just be doing the same as our friend with the Saxo, wouldn't I?

Please convince me other wise, I so want that exhaust.

thats a bit of a bone of contention me thinks LOL

on one hand everyone wants their car to "sound like a sportscar should" but no amount of de-catting, or noisy exhausts is going to turn a 1.8 4 pot shopping car engine into a Ferrari V8

..all you end up with is errrrr.....that 1.8 shopping car engine (like the Saxo) but with "a noisy exhaust" ...well thats what the man in the street will think

seriously...just get one anyway ...most will give a few bhp, if you have a sports cat, induction kit too (even more growl) then all together you can add 10-15bhp, and if nothing else, it will make a lot more noise LOL wink

/take care not to go too loud though - otherwise you end up crippling that "track car for the road" you bought, by not allowing it to go on track frown

I have a 111S with a Larini club sport and quite a few of the people in my local club have commented on how awesome is sounds. Mine is coupled with a Hurricane induction and a decat biggrin

I don't think the Saxo will rev to 8k - The Citroen will certainly not sound like my Exige does (Larini Sport), when it's bouncing off the limiter !!

As for the man in the street (apart from bks to him) - they generally think a Lotus is a race car anyway, so won't be shocked to hear it is a bit loud?

I have the same on my 111S. It sounds how it should now and a totaly
different note to a shopping trolley.

Best thing i've done to it.

I saw a brand new Morgan Roadster being driven into Badminton Horse Trials on Saturday which had a nice aftermarket 'sports' exhaust. The guy driving the car must have been 70 and he and his wife didn't look much like chavs. He was even tickling the thottle to get peeps to move out of his waylaugh
I like the Blueflame exhaust on my car (it came with it); doesn't boom on the Mway but has a nice roar/rasp when I put my foot down.
Don't forget most 'chavs' fit very cheap backboxes which just give more noise - Larini et al claim to 'tune' the exhausts to produce a certain type of sound.

Thanks for the input. Larini Club Sport ordered today.

I'll let you know what I think when it's on the car.

Cheers.

Good call. It should be a crime to have an Elise without a sports exhaust!

Bogie's right - it's a 1.8 4 pot, and so many of the exhausts (in my opinion) sound like other relatively small engined 4-pots with loud exhausts. But the Larini one has a LOT of character (check my profile on the video tab for some comparisons I made in my old 111S).

A fine fine choice - many people, even V8 Ferrari or V10 Lambo owning ones, said they LOVED the sound (especially when I blasted past them in a tunnel!)

Amusingly, most that have heard my car are always very surprised when they find out it's only a 1.8 4 pot engine... sounds quite deep, but very loud at higher revs. The supercharger gives it a nice sond as well.

the car can never be chavvy but it can be driven by a chav. chavs usually have at least 3 of the following: a/ reversed baseball cap b/ sound system which vibrates the doors of nearby houses c/ an exhaust with a bigger diameter end pipe than the chav's usually pin sized head d/ a mock american accent.

do you fit these qualifications?

Hmmm, nought out of three on that score.

Larini phoned back today, apparently they don't have one on the shelf as they thought they did so a 2 to 3 week delivery time, "which is a shame", as they say.

was trundling down the M4 last weekend on my way to the solent when a black elise slowly overtook in the outside lane. closely followed by plod . he had a non standard exhaust on it and it was creating the sort of noise level that for me would make the car unuseable on long journeys. OK most of my journeys are short, and the standard exhaust on my 111R is a bit quiet so I'd like something a bit more throaty. but the trips I really enjoy in the Lotus are the longer ones on traffic free continental roads and I dont want to end up using the earplugs I had for my bike..

think hard before you buy a noise problem.
