urgent help needed, boxster wont start
Discussion
Hi guys. im currently trying to find a fault on 2003 boxster s. it used to drive perfectly then suddenly cut out, the relays start clicking =, fuel pump stops and so does the e=ngine, i have checked it for d.t.c`s and no trouble codes stored. the engine management light doesnt come on when it cuts out. at present the car will not even turn over, fuel pump doesnt kik in when ignition turned on. then all of a sudden it will start and run fine then suddenly ct out again. any ideas?????
Have a feel under the passenger seat and see if its damp/wet. The Control unit for the alarm system is under there, when they get damp they corrode and cause problems like this. If it is damp check the forward most roof control arm. They have a tendancy to snap and punture the membrane in the rear and allow water into the cabin. Hope this helps
Hi. thanks for the replies this job really is getting to me now. ive been through all battery conections, water ingress into alarm modules (dry as a bone and no signs of any water ingress in vehicle at all) Ive been through the car and cleaned all 9 earth points. still no joy... HELP
Im now looking at or clutching at straws maybe
the power feeds into vehicle. ive traced the main power lead into the car from the battery as there is only one but there must be a junction box or t off from this lead somewhere but cant find it? any ideas?

hi again. i now have the car running after changing the dme and the starter relays. it was ticking over nicely for an hour tonight and thought i had cracked it so started putting it all back together. just as i finnished it bloody cut out again.
i now feel i have a power up relay fault if it has one. or i need to find where the power comes from into the car. such as ignition feeds? i can only trace one main battery lead that comes from the battery, through the bulk head, under the centre console through to the firewall. so where does the interior cars main feed come from?????

If you remove the engine top cover there is a (+) joining point next to the power steering reservoir. If it just cuts out It might not be a relay. Fuel pumps can go faulty and intermittently play up until they fail. Not sure if this helps at all. You may have 2 problems ?
Hi. i have spoken to a local porsche dealer and they tell me they have come accross the same problem with a identical vehicle and had to fit an ecu at nearly £2000. oops.
Well ive put it back together now and given up.
And guess what.
It wont even bloody turn over now unless i leave the ignition on for 15 mins first the you hear all the enging components burst into life, ya turn the key and it starts and runs perfectly.
im at a loss as to what to do with it.

This may sound bizare but i had a simmilar issue with my C4S it turns out it was the ignition switch was intermitantly faulty and once the barrel was swaped out all was good.
on my car first sign of trouble was aircon faliure! go figure.

Well the suns out and i still cant use the bloody car.
Its been starting perfectly for the last 2 weeks showing no faults at all so i decided to venture out the drive with it and go on a 1mile, then back then a 3 mile and she ran perfectly,,,
Until i decided to venture that little further, about 8 miles then it suddenly cut out and wouldnt even crank over.
Left it for 20 minuites and it started, got me home and now am back to square one.
at the moment it is starting and running as good as gold.
I still need help.

I'd get it plugged into a PIWIS (genuine Porsche dealer tool) tester before wating anymore time on it. It's kind of like a big laptop so you may be able to persuade a Porsche specialist with one to bring it out to you. It will report any faults with alarm modules, ignition circuits and all sorts of other stuff - be well worth seeing what comes up.
