My first post on the forum - and asking questions already

Have been reading loads on the various Monaro models, and think i've got my head around the different versions - still have some probably obvious questions...

Have around £15-18k to spend so seems to put me mid-field in the cars currently available on Pistonheads though different models seem to be the same price.

Is there a performance comparision somewhere between the 5.7 and 6.0's ?

Is one better than the other to start from if doing some mild mods ?

If i want to go Supercharged in future, can it be either engine size ?

From reading various posts i've seen its better to be manual than auto for mods.

My gut feeling is to go for 6.0 as its bigger and i'm always being told bigger is better... but would like others opinions of this before i take the plunge !!

Also, is there somewhere with the cars dimensions, i know its big, but would like to get a comparison against previous cars i've owned. MKIV Supra, S Type Jag etc..

Thanks for any suggestions or advice given.

Dean.

15-18k will get a 6.0 VXR no problem and thats the best starting point. If you wait and pick the right car you may even get one with a supercharger and or AP Racing brakes for near the top of your budget, along with a decent exhaust. Its a buyers market at the moment with some really nicely specced cars going for less than the mods cost the owners.

Dimensions -

Length - 4789 mm
Width - 1841mm (excl mirrors)

Thats a CV8 not a VXR, add another 3-4 inches for a VXR I think.

They are bloody big - only a couple of inches shorter than my Omega I use to have.

Thanks for the replies - shall hang out for a nice 6.0 then.

Size is not too bad smile 30mm wider and 250mm longer than my old supra - and that fitted in the garage !!

No auto's as standard makes it easier.

One question i forgot - were there many/any upgrade options when then came from the factory or were all Monaro's specced equally ??

They were all pretty much the same for the UK market. Black/dark grey interiors, no real options to speak of. Which is a shame because I likey some of the red or natural leather colour interiors on some of the Aussie/ US spec cars!

I would seriously measure your garage! A few inches here and there does make a big differance. Mine just fits into the garage, and I'm talking nose on the wall and a limbo to get in and out of the car!

Length is not too much of a problem as garage is 1.5 cars long - width is more serious - i had the nack of reversing in at a slight angle which gave me walking space down the side - though if i got it wrong yes it was a limbo job.

Are the windows frameless ? - this used to help with the Supra when i got it wrong, wound down made it much easier to get out smile

The opening of the doors I find the biggest problem !! What with the long doors you need to open them quite a bit to get in and out - fortunatley I'm quite flexible and slim !!

God knows what fat Monaro owners do !! hehe

...but seriously can you live with that tiny boot?

I've recently met a fellow 'rowner who has a later model and we compared boots (as you do) and my, is the later model's small.

Also if you are prepared to wait, get one with as many mods. as possible of the type you want already fitted, you'll save£££,

regards,
Jet

How small is small ??

My current run about is a Jeep Grand Cherokee which i plan on keeping for the 'tip run' and for when i have to visit construction sites...

The wife has a Cooper S which IS a small boot though she can get a weekly shop in there - so if its bigger than that i'm home and dry biggrin Certainly not planning trips to Ikea in it...

Really don't know what the issue is with the 'small boot/big boot' bolloxrolleyes, I didn't buy the 'Ro to do the weekly shop in! But even when we have, it hasn't been a problem at all. Even on a trip away for a few days with the missus the boot was big enough for everything we needed, and you know what wimmin are like for taking sh1t they don't need.hehe IMHO the VZ Monaros look more 'finished' than the earlier models, especially from the back with the exhausts at either side.

Agree with those sentiments entirely - its like the how many MPG will i get questions - nice to know, but certainly not a reason for buying this car biggrin though it does seem to be pretty good from what i've read so far

Currently get <17mpg in my Jeep, so most things are an improvement anyway..

You've not met Mrs Noise then?

Although the two wine cases do take a bit of room smile

In the end you pays your money, etc
For me the big boot was the right choice,
