Saw Red Dragon last night for the first time. I enjoyed it a lot, but having given it some thought, I still say the original is better. The original Will Graham (William Petersen) was better, as was the original Francis Dollarhyde, to name but two aspects.

Anyone else?

Manhunter for me too. Red Dragon is a good remake and if you watch it first then the Silence of the Lambs, then Hannibal then it works with the series of films. But the original is best.

Watched both fairly close together at Uni' and enjoyed red Dragon a little more, but I thought the guy who played the killer in Manhunter was better, if you could put him with Ed Norton and Hopkins it would be great.

I quite liked it. Having seen the other movies, I was always looking for a film/story to show how he became what he is.

Manhunter was a WAY better film. Red Dragon was only made to cash in on the whole Hannibal Lector phenomenon.

Red Dragon just felt like a film that was churned out to make some quick cash whereas Manhunter was a well made, well acted film (although a little dated now) that was tense and followed the 'feeling' of the book really well.

If I remember correctly around the time of Red Dragon being released Ed Norton was saying that the only reason he did the film (and The Italian Job) was that he was tied into a 3 picture deal and was forced to do it. He didnt like the film and felt like it didnt really need to be made etc.

Manhunter is the better film, except for the soundtrack Tangerine Dream, synth prog rock, awful, really grates, the albino bad guy so ugly he'd give you on looks alone nightmares... I'm afraid Hopkins is a tad too panto for me. it was good in Silence though.

Yes sounds familiar. A face only a mother could love.

Watched all the Hannibal films..While they are good in their own way..
Manhunter wins it for me..Superb direction and an intense thought provoking movie..A film that never fails to entertain from start to finish..
