Anyone travelling to Le Mans ferries evening of Weds 10th?
Discussion
No worries, I'm sure we'll see a few fellow travellers on the road anyway.
Going via Hull? Ours is even shorter overall, Portsmouth-Caen, nice bunk overnight and only 100 miles to drive in the morning. Planned it this way as originally we were going in Russ's Ultima but unfortunately it won't be finished in time so now he has to go with me in the barbie car

Yep, we are doing the much shorter Hull ferry route ... 5 hours Yorks to Ashford or 30 mins to Hull ferry terminal?
Far better and it only adds 90 mins driving each way on the other side.
It was seeing your route on the PH who /when /where thing that made me check out the option. I'd already booked the tunnel but next year I'll be using the Hull ferry for sure.

Almost. Leaving Sheffield 5:30 but heading to Ashford for the tunnel.
Next year I'm doing the Hull ferry, seems a lot easier on the car and the return journey won't hurt so much.
Sorry, that was rude of me not to reply directly! I reckon it's going to take us 5 hours to reach Portsmouth so I can't leave much later than 4:30 to allow for traffic etc. That means we'll be passing Meadowhall about 5pm :-( I would have loved to travel the M1 accompanied by the v8 throb of your beastie, but hopefully we'll see you there. Especially as my passenger is the proud owner of a tuned Corvette LS7 for his Ultima - I'm sure he'd love to see how things used to be done!Next year I'm doing the Hull ferry, seems a lot easier on the car and the return journey won't hurt so much.

Just a thought but we have been doing Portsmouth - St Malo to le mans (ferry) and Cherbourg - Poole (cat) return. Best of both worlds other than an early start on the monday morning. Anyhoo to make the journey there a bit more interesting last year we stopped off at Brooklands museum on the way down, it's just off the M25 near Heathrow and then it's an easy run down the A3 to Portsmouth.
Officially, we're not doing LeMans this year, but we're thinking about a weekend away to watch some racing in the Sarth area of France. Basically, we're trying to do Le Mans without taking time off work. Setting off Friday night and coming back Sunday night and actually watching the race rather than spending 5 days getting razzed and being too p1ssed to care about the race.
We're looking at North Sea Ferries Hull to Zeebrugge on Friday night, a sprint to Le Mans before the start, watch the race and join the scramble back to Calais for a 10pm Chunnel (could be ambuitious) home.
If you're interested in tagging along, it will be a very budget weekend of racing rather than drinking, although the latter will not be ruled out.

We're all sorted for this trip, just looking for a chance to convoy with like-minded souls on Wednesday night. Hope you make it Dave - will look out for you there.
I did it in bargain-basement stylee 2 years ago. After work drive to Dover, grabbed an hours sleep on the sofas on the £20 midnight ferry to Dunkerque, arrived in Beausejour at 8am Friday morning.
Same ferry back home Sunday night, back at the house about 7am Monday morning. Needs 2 drivers though, as you won't get enough sleep to do it safely on your own. VERY cheap though. Wouldn't fancy work on the Monday!

We are planning on leaving Leeds at about 5.30ish on Wed to head down to Ashford. Always look forward to meeting up with exotica on the way down, but we were planning on doing LM on the cheap this year and all going in the uber cruiser. Not sure that we would really fit in with an LM convoy.
Our resolve is currently weakening though... wrong kind of V8
Oil burner - shudder.

Did you look at my profile? Nothing exotic there!I think our problem is we're having to leave earlier than you and most others to be sure of our ferry. Not to worry, I'm expecting the ferry to be 100% LM'ers so the French side'll be sorted!

and it's a long way to Portsmouth.

We are indeed going down to Ashford on Tuesday night. I did this last year - my brain simply can't handle the idea of setting of on one day and arriving the next...
