Hi Chaps

Considering a 2003 model of the above. Are there any show stoppers to look out for? apart from lack of Full MB service history?

I always said I wouldn't buy a non-manual performance car, but manuals appear to be like the proverbial rock horse sh*t...Is the auto box any good and does it detract from the spirited driving experience? Please bear in mind that I am coming from a track-focussed 993

Thanks

The intercooler water pumps fail on the SL55 regularly, the diag is a drop of power after a couple of mins of full throttle action.
The ECU backs the power right off and it drives like a Fiat Panda ..
Its not a big deal pumps cost £260 plus 2 hrs of labour to fit expect £350

Check the seals for the roof I have heard they are fearfully expensive to replace if they leak

I agree with both points here.

Have had the IC coolant pump replaced and complete roof and boot seals all under MB warranty though.

Very different drive IMO. Nowhere near the same amount of driver control and agility as a track focused Porsche. If that's what you're after i'd recommend something different.

Having said that the auto box is good - the manual mode works well when you get used to it (as i'm learnin) and the car offers loads of things a track focussed Porsche doesn't.

Just make sure you're buying one for the right reasons. A track car it ain't.
