Removing chewing gum from fabric

What would be the best method for removing chewing-gum that has hardened onto a fabric car seat?

The usual way to remove chewing gum from fabric is to put the fabric into the freezer, gum goes rock hard and simply remove, but a bit difficult with a car seat. Put an ice pack on to it, might work.
