21 years of hard road and track use of SEAC TVR420X

Cracks, dents, kurbing , bent and corrosion all sorted.

Chemically stripped, centres wet sprayed, laquered and baked, added weld on kurbed outer rims then lathe machined back then machine and hand polished.

OZ's polish up especially well due to the magnesium content.

Outers will now be laquered and baked then fitted with stainless button head socket screws (a thousand times easier to keep clean than the original 10-point headed screws).

Poor Boys wheel sealant on rear of wheels before putting back on car.

Must remember to stay away from kurbs wavey

Cannot wait to get the old girl back on the road.

Steering column bearing, tracking and wheel alighnment and replace wooden dash for new next on the agenda.

Everything's taking a little longer than expected but I tend to buy my cars and just keep throwing money at them until they're right.

I'm not into half measures.

Back soon.

Me too.

Several delays but hoping to collect the car in the morning.

Now, someone here I'm pretty sure told me that the rim bolts were M7's, or did I hear wrong?

There's me, imported a set of these rather unusual thread size fasteners from Germany at mouthwatering £80+ only to be told they're the wrong size.

Wonderful, not.

Hi David,

Length was not the problem, it was the diameter.

A machine shop had to drill out the holes.

All is now well.

Should have just got a cheap set of M6's (most places would have these in stock in stainless) and re-sold the M7's

I don't do cheap Leigh as I'm a perdantic old bar-steward and like things right.

Cost does not come into when ones cars are part of ones mid life crisis!

Button head and stainless was the only way I was going to go and after spending £80 I was damn sure I was going to use them.

My game plan is to get the car looking as nice as possible for this summer, try and get up to BBWF for a day and look at what others are using for wheels as I've still not made a final decision, especially after reading on another thread of a wedge running 18's cool

I purchased some 9 x 17's which I'm now selling as there was not enough offset: http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/1064619.htm

These look nice but I'd imagine they will fit on a later model TVR where the large wedge offset is not required.

Did not mean cheap, just less expensive, as M6's are a common size and are a stock item, they would also be stainless button heads, so would be 100% the same as you are using just the correct fit.
As you may have seen on the racer I have replaced all the bolts that dont need to be HTS for stainless, capped or button heads. this includes all the engine bolts. had to pay £2 each for some of the 3" front cover bolts just so they matched.

but also I don't like paying over the odds for stuff and people taking the piss with prices.

Leigh,

My problem was I'd been told they were M7's and as this size is rare I was stuffed.

I tried many suppliers of stainless fasteners all over the UK and none could help.

I purchased off of the German eBayer.

Out of interest which UK supplier did you use as I'd like to do the same as you in the engine bay?

Best idea would be to visit a supplier and do the work out in their yard! biggrin

I got 95% of the stuff from group components, as I used to work next door, they did not do the 7/16 3" front covers bolts in capped, so I had to get them from someone else.

Remember also to use copperslip on all stainless, else it can weld itself to the ali.

My wedge runs on 8x18 Azul Speedmesh's, 215/35 ZR18 up front and 235/40 ZR18 at the rear. These fit perfectly with no spacers or body mods.

Sorry, they were already on the car when I bought it and there's no receipt! If you search on the Internet you'll find them, but only on US websites. I have also only found them in other colours - mine are a metallic darkish silver - see close-up pic on thread http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

I understand the visual impact of this but: don't 16" + rims affect roadhandling?
