Aircraft Scrapyards/wings etc

I've probably had too much Rioja, but are there any aircraft breakers where I could get a plane wing or tail to fashion a large desk out of. I've seen the odd one for sale, but I'm looking for a project.

any links or ideas gents?

Used to be one in Stock, Essex, that used to take a lot of RAF stuff during the early 90's.

Think it was called Hanningfield Metals.

Don't know whether they have much there now.

just for referance these guys are really helpfull and don't think your toally nuts if you ring up wanting airframe bits etc. Looks like I am aquiring a Jaguar tail fin!

about £300. not finalised things yet, as I'm now deciding whether to get a harrier one instead, but they comeas one piece (both sides) for £600 (makes 2 desks)

You won't be the first to do this so it isn't as mad as you might think

Discovery Channel ran a series called "Wing Nuts" about a company who did exactly this as a business using old Warbird parts and (if I recall correctly) did quite well out of it! I remember them custom building an ali desk for a client, using an elevator (I think) cleaned back to bare metal and polished, with a glass top added.

If it wasn't holiday season I'd almost be tempted to go halves with you on a Harrier tail. Would go nicely with the Aerotherm pilots seat I'm trying to get looking something like this (non Aerotherm one);

I'd think media blasting would be the best way of stripping all the paint off.

I know it sounds daft, but we generally use paint stripper and a non metallic scraper.
We then used to use a polish (something like Finesse it) on a sponge mop to get it nice and shiny, and then to really bring the alloy up like chrome we used to use a dry mop and plain white flour to suck the polish out of the metal and really bring up the shine.
This used to work on rather large airliners, so should be a bit easier on a small Harrier stab.

I've finally got this project started, and like all good projects costs are much higher than bargained for. The tail plane is now split into 2 and the first one has gone to be bead blasted and will be powder coated silver (hardwearing in the office environemnt) then hope fully a glass top and 3 adjustable legs fitted.

However I may have miss measured the office. I was originally going to have one each for me and my oppo, but they both wont fit. So the second one may be up for sale, if anyone is interested send me a pm through my profile, or give me a bell at www.lockyers.co.uk
