Motorway Reminders

Message signs to warn of phone danger

Drivers will be reminded by motorway signs from today of the new regulation, due to come into force on December 1, making it an offence to use a hand held mobile phone when driving.

Two safety messages - "Think don't phone while driving" or "Don't phone while driving" – will be programmed to appear on 128 of the existing variable message signs on motorways and trunk roads across England. The message will be displayed as a default when the signs are not needed to show other important traffic information to drivers until 4th December.

...and no, the M4 signs aren't equipped with SPECS cameras

"Think don't phone while driving"

They're not going to win any crystal awards for use of English there are they? Too easy to interpret as "Don't think, phone while driving"

or even...

"Think don't phone, while driving".
