I am guesstimating want to spend about 10% of the bike RRP to get something worth while.
So around £50 or so, am I best off with the heavy D lock types are the wire loops strong enough on a general rule it will be used for locking when parked in the pub mid ride, Don't use the bike to go into town and leave it for hours, is going to be in general locked in my view but don't want to need to see it all the time.
Ideally long enough to lock wheels and seat as well, or could I have a finer gauge wire for keeping these together and the heavy duty land anchor style doing the main security work.
As I am stopping mid ride don't (if I can avoid it) want to have a heavy lump to carry all the time as it will affect the ride itself.
any recommendations?
What do you use?

I expect any lock can be cut with a dirty great set of bolt cutters, but thieves are unlike;y to be wondering around with a pair.
I would suggest checking TK Maxx if you have one local. They sometimes have top brands for not much money.
Also consider motorbike shops, although the chains are usually the thick heavy type, so not ideal for riding with.
But, if you've got deep pockets, buy one from a bike shop

Kryptonite locks are the dogs danglys, especially the yellow barrelled ones, however they are pretty damn heavy!

ETA: most wire/chain/cables can be cut with a pair of small bolt croppers in a few seconds, I certainly wouldn't trust one as the only method of detterent, only alongside a D/shackle lock
