Just spent 3 days at Innerleithen, 'doing' the runs there and at Glentress. First time I have done that sort of thing. And it was absolutley fantastic. The black run at Glentress was truly memorable - now need to get a bike with a bit of a slacker head angle and longer travel suspension...
If you have not ventured north of the border, give it a go.

I have a couple of days in Peebles next month courtesy of work; which trails should I aim for on a hardtail?
Everything at Glentress is possible on a hardtail, some bits can get a bit bumpy but it just makes you look braver
. If you do go to Glentress, the red run is good fun and worth the climb to Spooky Wood (gets good about 1.30)Not sure about Innerleithen, I've never been so can't help there.
I ride Glentress a lot, so here's a tip
On the last section, Falla Brae, the blue route goes off to the left, take it. It's smoother and wider (as you'd expect) but it's also a fantastic bit of trail. Lots of jump and drop-off options, so if you're normally on the black and red runs, do this blue section and rip it up!

Glentress is awesome. I missed out on the lads trip up there earlier this year, where they stayed an extra day to ride Kirroughtree again....
i have it on good authority that Inners has the best DH and Kirroughtree the best trail riding. I'm looking forward to trying them both out later this year.

The Innerleithen XC is fantastic as well - seriously tough in places, and the final section, with big but non-technical jumps.......just awesome.

Did Innerleithen XC on Saturday - wind was blowing so hard that almost no need to pedal on some final uphill sections. And from the top, the down hilly bits with the berms and jumps, fantastic fun. As for the 'rock garden' bits, as it was raining as well, they were a bit slippery... but hold your nerve and jobs a goodun.
Really fantastic fun!

I'm desperate to do one of the 7 Stanes a day for a week. Would be a rather fun road trip, just finding a whole free week would be the hard bit. Anyone done something similar?
Not yet but planning it for my summer holidays. I'm right in the middle of them (only 9 miles from Newcastleton
) so it ideal really.Innerleithen XC is down Traquair Road, which is a right turn off the A72 (Peebles Road), just past the Co-op if your travelling from Glentress.
And in MBR mag, some nutter did the 7 stanes in 24 hours. Riding the red routes, and then riding between each route. 462km in all, 140 of which was off road. Took him 23 hours...

ks!I lived in Edinburgh for years and used to ride the Tress/Inners most weekends

The only stane i've never made it to is Glentrool. Was thinking of a Scottish road trip sometime....
As someone said above, each one has its own character and that's what makes it so special.
PS - try riding Spookywood at night under lights! MENTAL
Just back from my first proper biking trip, Wednesday we did the red route at glentress, found it hard going as the climb involves a different kind of fitness than im used too. I enjoyed the descent a lot despite coming off 6 times, no serious injuries though just a few scrapes and bruises.
Did inverleithen xc route on thurs, found some of the climbing impossible and had to push, this was a combination of it being very very steep, especially the first bit, a hangover and stiff/bruised legs from thurs. The views from the top were awsome and the descent fun, only came off once but it was a big off!!! stright over the bars! How i didnt injure myself i will never know!
