Wellgo MG1s are great value for money, paint doesn't last too long though.

Shimano DX flatties are on my bike - so far pretty good. However have just bought some 'Five Ten' shoes, and with their super sticky soles, makes a fantastic combination.

Shin guards are a great idea.

I swear by, and use nothing other, than DMR V12s on my mountain bikes. Never had any issues, however do have a couple of scars.

Crank Bro 50/50's are good but they are quite expensive and I wouldnt say they are any better then the Welgo's or the DMR's

I have had many sets of DMR V8s and V12s on bikes over the years. When I got my current road bike, off came the stooopid SPDs, on went a new set of V12s... biggrin

Wellgo copies of the V8's are half the price, the same (for all intents and purposes) and made by the same people - Wellgo. If I'd seen you post earlier I would have suggested taking out a subscription to MBUK for £10.95 as you get a free pair of V8's as a gift.

I notice you've bought V8's but maybe next time consider buying Kona Wah Wah's as an alternative to the V8/V12. I've got V12 Mags on my trail bike but have put Wah Wah's on the FR and reckon they're better than the V12's as they're not quite as grippy as the V12 meaning that you can re-set your foot if/when it does slip without having to think too much about it...not good when you're pushing it.

They're also a great size and quite a nice design too. They don't spin particularly freely too and so you have confidence that they are going to be in the right place for your foot when you want to put it back on.

I like them a lot.

I read an article that the Atherton's use 50/50's and get through about 10 sets a season or so. A friend also has had numerous bearing issues with 50/50's.....my V12's just work with no issues whatsoever and have taken some real knocks.

I'm sure DMR's quality has gone downhill dramatically over the last couple of years. My first set of V8's lasted for about 5yrs with just a regrease and tweak up once in a while to keep them running smoothly. The replacement set I bought very quickly went sloppy and the casting quality was awful. Did Wellgo always make DMR stuff??I am now running some Easton Cullys, and am very imressed so far. Super smooth and lovely build quality.

My older V12s are better quality than the newer ones on my 2nd bike. I'd struggle to justify that objectively, however subjectively my older ones are just "better"

I just got some Atomlab G.I Pedals, didnt want to spend too much and the Crank Brothers 50/50's were a bit too much.

Mine cost me 30 sheets and are brilliant!

they've arrived smile

Wearing a pair of very old Vans, these are a lot grippier than I expected. Managed a couple of bunnyhops in the garden without removing any shin skin ... things are looking promising biggrin
