Hi all,

I have recently brought a chimaera 400 and I am about to embark on my first road trip this summer.

I'm looking to go for 8 days down to laks garda but take in some of europes great roads, such as via bormio/stelviodown to garda then back up through the black forest.

Can anyone recommend any must see towns to stop at on the way and what is the best route to take? I hear there's also better passes than stelvio.

any suggestions people have from experience would be great.
thanks!

The Fluelpass from Davos to Stelvio is a really good road but personally I'd attack Stelvio from the NE direction, as advised on PH's last year (SS38/SS40) this way you'll tackle all of the hairpins that you see in the postcards, going up. I haven't done it (yet) but the road from Bormio to Stelvio is more open and flowing (look on You Tube), it really depends upon what you're after. When we went last year, I was told that there were better passes than Stelvio, but Stelvio's got THE name and had to be ticked off. When you go to Garda, keep to the West side of the lake, the towns of Limone sul Garda and Salo are truly stunning. Stelvio has actually started to be cleared of the snow today

I'm going back to San Marino in October and will be staying in Interlaken (Switzerland) then doing to Grimsell, Furkka, Lukmanier and San Bernadino passes on the way down, something to mull over? Whatever you do, enjoy them

Yep, that photo was captured today from one of the webcams! Keep taking a look at this link http://webcam.popso.it/stelvio.php?PASSOALTO2 to see what the conditions are like. So as to give you some sort of orientation, I've attached 2 photos from our trip. The 1st shows the hairpins when approaching from the NE, which are hard work but fun if the roads clear (we turned off the main road at 18.00 and were at the summit at 18.30 and only had 4 vehicles come towards us). When were you thinking of going?

Our route to Bormio takes us across some other passes
