I know this must have been asked and discussed many a time before. But I'm sure its still interesting.

How does the AJPV8 compare to the S6??

The Cerb was (an sort of still is) one of my all time dream cars. I loved the look and the new sound from the 4.2 and I loved the speed and performance it offered and the wacky interior.

However, I was disappointed when TVR introduced the 6 cylinder engine. To me it just never sounded as good. And from the magazine articles of the time it wasn't as quick either.

So, now we are quite a few years on, how do the two engines stack up to each other??

In terms of drivability, power, reliability, mpg, noise, running costs and so on?

Cheers biggrin

I love the AJP V8, but the S6 is the engine that is still being developed and improved by companies like Racing Green. A good, rebuilt and modified, S6 is on a par powerwisw with the AJP V8's. The V8 is probably at the limits of it's development now, and were at the stage where we are now just keeping the engine going to retain the purity of a Cerbera with it's own unique engine.

I disagree.

The AJP's true potential has barely been scratched, proof of that is mikes 470bhp+ engine/ the turbocharged developments etc etc.. these are silly light and silly powerful. Fantastic engines... oh and reliable.

The six is sadly a work in progress still IMHO. Even once they're reliable, they'll always lack torque to the larger capacity V8's and are reasonably heavy. frown They sound great though, and the T'cars are bloody good, im just less convinced of the six still.

I think i dissagree with all of this!

The S6 is definatly not on a par powerwise to a good AJP, especially the torque.

Also i still feel there is a lot more to come with the AJP. No one has really developed it before (apart from the original race engines)

Every year a more powerfull AJP has been seen...

I've never bother looking it up, but why did TVR ditch the V8 and go with the 6? It always felt like a backwards step to me.

What Companies - not individuals - are develpoing the AJP then? I'm not after an argument here, I'd be interested to know, as I haven't heard of any. Racing Green is just one company that I have read about that do work on the S6, eg the FFF S6. And lets face it, there are far more S6 engined TVR's around than AJP's, so commercially it makes more sense for Engine specialists to invest in the S6.

Currently APM and TVR Power for starters.

I am far more interested in what private individuals are doing though, like "fatjon's" twin turbo than any specific company anyway. I dont doubt it makes more sense to head the sixer route, but that doesnt change my post below...

Im sure boosted is more than willing to further the AJP8 development too on the FI side of things, so we'll see what happens. Just needs someone to want to start heading that way I should think. thumbup

The AJP8 is a very light engine capable of astonishing performance as standard - its potential may not be being looked at by many people at present, but thats not to say it hasnt got it... smile

TVR with 6 cylinders, nar, not for me. It's like eating pasta in a steakhouse, like Dolly Parton with a AA cup, Billy Connoly with the F word deleted from his vocabulary. No, just wrong.

Although it's a matter of personal taste, you might like eating pasta with a small chested woman while listening to Mother Teresa's greatest comedy sketches.

Climbing into my bunker now..
