Is it set up?
I was watching it last night, and never really realised but all the people on it do is go on about funds for this and no money for that.
Which is all quite convenient as their telling it to a millionaire who wants to give away some money.
Or is it just me?
I'm sure this will be moved, but I have to agree it all semms a bit scripted to me!!I was watching it last night, and never really realised but all the people on it do is go on about funds for this and no money for that.

Sorry mods!
I just thought, the man in the church just went on about money and not being able to afford a cafe.. The Polish couple went on about not having any money, and to me.. It was abit set up.
The first series was good and quite touching, but it's got rather formulaic and boring now.
I want to see an episode with Fred Goodwin as the millionaire...
Fred: 'Actually, I haven't been entirely honest with you. I'm not really a penniless tramp, I'm a very successful businessman and millionaire. I was really touched by your struggle to keep the Youth Centre going and I just.... (gets chequebook out) ... decided to keep it all myself. Bwahahaha!'

Surely it's all offset against tax anyway...
Surely a) you only get tax releif when donating to registered charities, not individuals and b) it's only 18% (i.e. difference between higher rate and basic rate) you claim back, so not really 'all offset against tax'.............Sidicks
I find the funniest part being when the multi millionaires are "touched by something" and give them a cheque for 10K.... Maybe it's just me, but if I was on TV and I mentioned my company every 5 minutes I would give a lot more than the price of a new Ford Fiesta to change people's lives!

Was last night the Dundee episode? that pretty much explains all the begging and complaining about money.

I missed it, but I know there was a lot of unhappy Scumdee's due to the Polish couple getting a handout. But considering there is a very high % of Polish living in Dundee, why the heck shouldn't they be considered. I mean, at least he worked for a living....although she could maybe have kept her legs closed for a while

You assume it's their money they're giving away?
Do you know different? Some give away 30k, some 50k, some 100k and one I saw I think it was 150k+.....
I do agree though that in future how many people will see a person turn up in a deprived area with a film crew and will think straight away that it's the "secret millionaire"... I have also noticed that it used to be a lot more about the person struggling to get by on the Job Seeker's allowance or whatever and not being able to eat properly and heat their house etc... and actually working somewhere as well. The current crop just seem to saunter around between charities..

I think the concept was compromised after the release of the first series. It must be at the back of anyone's mind now when a mysterious stranger willing to volunteer arrives in the community with a film crew.I do agree though that in future how many people will see a person turn up in a deprived area with a film crew and will think straight away that it's the "secret millionaire"...
