Advice please. I'm about to get some seat brackets to attach the seat on the runners fabricated. I plan on getting them made in steel but am unsure if it mild steel is suitable. Can anyone advise please?

Pretty much the whole of your daily driver is made of mild steel so that is not the problem.
The problem is what gauge (thickness) of material you are intending to use.
A bracket could be very complex with lots of folds and strengthening web and be made of this material. Alternatively a simple right angle bracket would have to be much thicker to do the same job.

Post up some drawings and we can advise a gauge. Or make a cardboard model and take a pic.

ok thanks Steve.

I was planning on having two pieces of flat steel per seat. Measuring 480 by 100. One piece with sit width-ways below the front of the seat the other across the back.

The front piece with have the front two seat bolts attached from above and the front bolts of each of the runners from below. The piece across the back with have the rear two seat bolts attached from above and the rear two bolts of the runners from below. The runners then attach to the floor of the car. I was thinking 3mm thickness?

If I'm reading you right the fixings of the seat are either wider apart than the runners or closer together.
If so then by how much?

Unless they are very close 3mm does not sound thick enough.

Steve, the runners are 35 further back and 60 further out, the diagonal distance between the fixing points are about 70. I'm more than happy to go thicker than 3mm but am unsure of the weight of a piece 480 by 100 by 3?

eta diagram, front seat bolts attach to lower holes, front of each runner attaches to the upper holes (for front, rears are opposite).

I think 3mm would be marginal.
For weight you could go up the 5mm in ali.

Is Ali strong enough?

5mm ali plate will be a lot tougher than what you are used to when you are normally dealing with 1.6mm sheet.

OK I've got a price on the ali which looks good. Before I order it do you think that two lengths of ali be sufficient to hold the weight of a person?

I'm assuming there was one of those plates at the front of the seat and one at the back. That is what I based my thoughts on when suggesting the thickness.
