With its V12 engine producing 811 ft.lbs of torque, how many buses/cars etc would that be able to pull?

So, it has about the same amount of torque as a bus, then?

there not really compairable, a bus has about 260hp but a r10 will produce 700hp in qualifying.

anyway the pug is more powerful.

Sorry to be pedantic, but the R15 has a V10.

I have no answer to your previous question.

Yes, and diesels will be limited to V8 by 2011.

I wish the ACO would stop slowing the cars down.

torque is over-rated...

Power is where it's at....

Yes, but the diesels were grossly favored by the current rules.
As they (ACO) were not willing to allow the petrol engined cars to "catch" the diesels, they needed to reduce the "benefits" granted to the diesels.

I can't quite tell if this is meant as a joke, or you just don't understand how BHP is calculated...

Half joking, but in all seriousness, I am sick and tired of people banging on about how much torque their Dismal makes, whilst totally ignoring the minuscule rev range said monster torque is delivered over.

Basic laws of physics, Power = Torque X rpm

For example point in having 800Lb/ft of torque if you only have it at 3,000-4,000 Rpm, compared to a petrol engine making a third the torque but revving to 19000+ rpm (and not requiring a pair of turbo's to do it)

And a tug of war between a whippet athlete, and a 25 stone builder, who can bench press the same weight is more about just strength.

That is true, but the general trend towards slowing all cars isn't great.

more to the point, it's called a gearbox.

give the whippet athlete a block and tackle over said builder and see what happens....

Watching Peter Sowerby's Nissan R90CK at last year's Silverstone Classic was incredible. It was still visibly and audibly accelerating hard at the end of the Hangar straight. By comparison, the Peugeots and Audis at the 1000kms a couple of months later were braking later and carrying more speed into Stowe, but not approaching with the same drama, nor accelerating to the same extent.

I suspect, given the number of high-profile prototype flips in the last 10-15 years, the underbody aero is very sensitive. Despite this, overall downforce should be decreased, but power could easily rise another 100bhp to allow a looser tail and more vivid acceleration. Would make a charming spectacle for us paying punters.

Well if there wasn't that trend by the manufacturers to keep speeding the cars up the ACO wouldn't need to slow them down smile

Then you cant be serious about your statement when you've tried something with 800lbft over a 3000rpm rev band in a 850kg car, gears are optional. biggrin
