We're off to the 24 hours next week and I imagine will be guided by Tom Tom for the majority of the route but are there any nice driving roads or unrestricted autobahns in the vacinity where we might have a bit of fun ?

Get to Malmedy; program the sat-nav to avoid major roads; enjoy the best drive of your life.

It might be this route....

Watch out for speed cameras, there are lots on the minor roads around and the Police will be out and about in force . . .

It would appear that 12 just brits are going to the Ring next week. I could be very wrong. 5 of them are in our 'convoy' We will part of the 'throng' who got fed up with the LM24 and wanted a change of scenery.

Who else is prepared to admit they changed their mind this year?

We've been going to LM for over 20 years now and just fancied a change. The Classic has provided that to some extent as is going down for pre-qual but this is an entirely different kettle of fish and as such it will be good to experience some new things. Whether it will take over from LM in our affections is doubtful but it will be a good alternative rather than making LM the default motoring weekend away.

Our advanced party will be but 10 brave souls but if all goes well expect much bigger numbers in years to come.

When are you guys off?
We are likely going to take a slight detour on the way over so we can take in a few Somme sights. We are also looking for some parking and spectating advice at the Ring. It's a bit thin on the ground on PH.
What's in your convoy?

We've booked everything through Neil at Race Tours whose been excellent in sorting everything out plus giving us advice as Nurburgring 24 hour virgins.

We're going Thursday with a view to getting down asap so will miss out on the better roads although look forward to the final push along the 258. Action on track looks good for Thursday so we want to get some of that in and possibly the mooted drivers parade in Adenau later in the afternoon.

Unlike LM where the journey down is as much a part of the event here we're leaving the sportscars behind and just taking the boring stuff.

I agree with orangecurry - do the boring Calais, Bruges, Brussels (ring road) and Liege (signs says Luik) and then head south for the signs for Spa. Down to Malmedy and then the roads are awesome - the closer you get to the 'ring the better they get. Meet up in the Pistenklause for a steak on saturday late afternoon if you fancy a meet - no later as you will never get in. I agree with others - the Ring 24 hour whole experience is one for the better.

The last bit of road up from Adenau is superb - I think it's the L92? Very alpine feel to it and the villages around there are beautiful too.
