Monaro shift light
Discussion
Mine only does it if I rag it from cold and well before I reach the red. The first time it happened I thought I'd broken something. I thought it was to stop you from over revving on a cold engine? I've never red lined it when warmed up either though. I normally shift up before it probably kick in.
I've noticed that on my 05 CV8 the warning beep/light comes on when cold, some way below the redline. I'll have a look at the rpm next time it comes on but I'm guessing it is about 1000rpm less than redline? I'm not one for ragging it from cold but it is good to have a reminder to keep yourself under control, (at least initialy).
the main reason im asking is that some guys in america have it working on 04 gtos. When they approach the redline it beeps, the led lights up but as long as the car is doing more than 10mph the instrument displays bit says "shift up a gear" or if its below 10mph then "approaching redline".
Hello,
On UK cars seems to be configured for the cold 3.5K RPM warning lights (flashes and makes a horrible alarm noise). I beleive you can get it modified by the people in American as a proper shift light but you have to send off your dash cluster and money. Its the same people whom can change the cluster lights and dials.
Cheers
Steven

On my car (05MY CV8) when cold, the red led comes on, dash beeps and display shows a 'gearshift' symbol at about 4000rpm. Once engine warmed up the above happens but at around 6000rpm. A friend who has an 04MY CV8 does not have this, when he had a ride in my car asked what it was.

thats what i want if its possible in the UK and as long as its not stupid amounts of money
I'm having a cluster face (white dials) conversion done on mine in the states. I'm also having the shift light function programmed in at the same time. It def appears that the cluster needs direct programming and I don't think Vauxhall technicians here are able to do it. The only thing they can do is program in the VIN number and mileage if there is a new cluster being put in to prevent a 'tamper flag' message coming up.

If thats the case i will wait until my warranty runs out. I would have thought someone in the UK would be able to do though? I originally thought that you could do it through EFI live or something similar. Thanks for the info anyway.

why should anybody need a light that tell them not to exceed 4k when cold? common sense really......
same applys for a shift light? its not like ls1's rev so fast you need an indicator to change gear. a bit of a stupid gimmick tbh.

I dont take mine above 3k until warm, but i just wanted to know if it was possible to activate the shift light on an 04 monaro as its their.
