Lots of threads about parts and maintenance recently, so thought I'd post a reminder of why we love our cerbs smile

Happened upon a Gallardo the other day on one of my favourite 'Autobahns'. He's in front and there's some light traffic. I'm on my way home after a long trip and the cerb's feeling quite frisky. We've been cruising at 85 or so for a few miles and I was half resigned to a traffic-enforced plod home when the MLMs finally wake up and traffic clears. The gauntlet drops with an admittedly impressive bark from up ahead. Now 85 in 4th gear is suboptimal revs-wise but even so I don't bother with a downchange and just unleash the hounds at a canter. I'd been keeping a respectful distance of a good 10 car lengths which grows a couple as the AJP gives a tiny cough, as if to alert me to what it's about to do, then the thrust arrives and I instinctively put a hand towards the console pocket. On this occasion my keys merely jostle around restlessly as if they're too tired to make a bid for freedom as they might have tried in 3rd. Nevertheless, the gap creep is halted and the cerb is now attached by an invisible and apparently inflexible pole to the car in front. I would like to think we were gaining on the Audi, or maybe it was just my leaning forward that gave this impression biggrin. He changes gear, which doesn't seem to affect his forward motion much. Meanwhile the AJP is coming into the Mad Zone and there is a small but perceptible gain. If we'd been side by side I'm sure he'd be admiring my SP back box. Another gear change from up ahead (scratchchin six speed box) and I've now got both hands on the wheel, have finished the adjustments to the stereo and even hung up the phone. Foot down, wheel gripped, and the thousand yard stare. I think I got into 5th, but more as a way of telling the beast to calm down for a gentle decelleration as the road started to become incompatible.

Not decisive enough to be conclusive, but it must have looked good (to the other German drivers) to see a nice expensive car fly past them making a very refined and tasteful sound, and a few seconds later a low slung supercar come flying past sounding like the hounds of hell screaming for blood. And goes to show that the cerb can still hold it's own against more modern and expensive machinery. smile
