De-cats - is it worth it?

After a year of owning my Sagaris, i've finally decided to get some de-cats fitted. Just wondered from anyone who has fitted them , is it worth the upgrade and has it made a noticeable difference in power or noise?

If it helps, I had a set of NTELS decats fitted on my Tuscan. The noise was dramatically increased.

I've now had a set along with a JP back box fitted to a T350. The noise is massively louder.

Difference between the two? The Tuscan was loud if slightly raspy. The T350 is way louder and a much deeper and meatier sound.

No noticable difference in power.

great for noise, not good if you want to go on track though ...or pass an MOT

so budget for someone to re-fit them once a year and get another car for track use

Much more noise and efficiency with Mr Quicks decats.

As there seems to be quite a variation in de-cat prices what are the *real* advantages of Mr Quicks ?

Fitted NTEL's decats couple of months back along with TVR Power Eprom. Couldn't say performance is any different but car certainly idles better, seems to spool up quicker and has a wonderful noise on the overrun. They are slightly raspy going thro' 3000rpm but significant improvement in the general sound of the car.

Won't pass noise levels for most circuits, Nurburgring and Zolder especially so have ordered set of Quiet Tails from ACT as recommended by Graham Varley.

Would I swap back to cats?,,,,,,,,,NEVER!

This true & not just on the over run. It pops & bangs even when changing up. As my apprentice told me when I overtook him the other week, changed up 2-3 as we went past & he sh4t himself as "a f4cking flame nearly took my eyebrows off"

Not seen or heard the "Mr Quicks" versions but Ntels are good quality welding.

as you know Kam, we have decats and racing green tailpipes and it pops and bangs awesome, 90db on tickover and 130db on the road

I'm getting mine fitted at Top Gear, so not sure which make he is using. I believe its the same ones from Power.

Will have to have a listen when their fitted Kam. Should sound a bit meatier than the standard system.

I really want my sag to sound noisier, but!!! and its a big but, its got to sound nice not just noisy!
The ideal sound for me is a t350/tamora jp exhaust sound, or a tuscan with ccc's on it! Do decats give a nice deep sound the same as the ones ive just mentioned!! or am I gonna be disappointed with decats.

Hi Ian,

Picked my car up at 6pm from TVRfix and I've just got in. just had NTEL's decats fitted, sounds the bks.

I would definitely recommend it. The standard system is far too quiet and this helps a great deal. If I am honest I could do with a little bit more noise and I am investigating getting some cans made at the moment. We had a good look and also stuck a camera (Endoscope) into the rear silencer, there doesn't seem to be too much silencing in the rear cans. I have about 25mm on the end of perforated baffle then they seem to be sleeved, apart from 50mm towards the end of the can. I wonder if the silencing in the rear splitter box could be removed.

That said I am a very happy boy and can't wait for a good hoon at the weekend.

The PDQ decats were dyno tested at the factory as far as I was aware and showed performance gains but I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong. Beautifully made and sound great with Blueflame exhaust!

I have Ntel de-cats & Blueflame backbox. Sounds
Just a bit too loud for track days but the blue flame comes complete ith 2x clip in db "killers" so should still be ok (not been on track since de-catting)
If you are a bit tight with the 3/4 revs test then they are 95db'ish at 4000rpm.
Peaks at 126db @ 1m though....

Bearable at motorway cruise speeds because your at less than 4000rpm
