Recommendations for replacing pioneer head unit ?

Hi, anyone got any recommendations for replacing the pioneer head unit on the griff ?
I am looking for a something that doesn't require major surgery ($350), and provides i-pod
connectivity ? (fed-up with retuning the radio all the time)

I went with another Pioneer i think a 7000 series with the i pod connection in glove box... Bit of waste still cant get over the music from the exhaust,,,,,,,,,,

Thanks, I know what you mean :-) , however my partner won't go long distances without
some sounds and if there are tracks I don't like I just drop down a gear.

I replaced my Pioneer with another Pioneer - the venerable DEH-P77MP, this time bought secondhand for a song (had one in the Saab before). Luvverly...



You'll need an i-pod interface for it though, which was offered as an option.

Hi,changed mine last year and went for another Pioneer so it connected to the autochanger.You will probably have to modify the loom behind the original Pioneer as it may not have an "ISO" plug.But for better sound i also changed the speakers,fitted four Pioneers,150watt 3way,that made a big difference.Hope this helps.Dave.

Lovely lookin' head unit that; very classy.

I recently installed this though; ( http://www.caraudiocentre.co.uk/search.asp?criteri... ) looks great with the Carbon Dash and has front connectivity for my Sansa-Clip. Been around for a while so a big discount.

Amazing what you can get for £70ish nowadays - there's really no excuse for buying no-name rubbish (which can hardly be significantly cheaper as packing, shipping etc. costs no less) anymore...

You can modify a Landrover > ISO mini loom to fit thereby leaving the original TVR wiring intact.

Slightly off Topic so appologies but, what speakers have you fitted Dave? I'll be uprating mine sometime soon. You got any shots to share?

Hi Bruce,the Pioneer speakers are TSE-1396,excellent sound,160w 3way.Very large magnets,fronts were straight swap but had to make spacers for the rears[too close to tank],but half inch spacers trimmed in leather look great.Sorry about no pics,no digi camera,still in stone age mode.Cheers,Dave.

I replaced the orig Pioneer unit in my Griff recently with a Sony MEX-BT3600U. Features include: CD slot (does not require head to be dropped to insert/remove CD), IPod support via front 3.5mm jack, Bluetooth and USB. Hands-free cellphone use including voice activated dialling; wireless music streaming with WMA, AAC and MP3 support.

Plays music wirelessly from cellphone with track select, skip etc from the head unit. Alternatively stream music via USB connected mass storage device/music player. Installation was really easy. Really pleased with it.

We're looking at a replacement as some to55er stole the front panel. Looked at the DEH-2120UB but it isn't compatibel with the existing Pioneer interchanger, so you need a P in front of the model. They are either red button illuminated or mega expensive with function we just wouldn't use. Just want a simple stereo with decent sound quality as the car is used every day so good to hear traffice reports. No USB, bluetooth etc needed but would like to use the Pioneer interchanger but noone other than Pioneer seem to have the IP Bus connection. I have no clue what it all means I don't want to be fannying around with the wiring, just a take out plug in and its finished.

Yes, it was a high-end model but it fits all your criteria and it should be affordable now either as new old stock, ex-demo or second hand. Very nicely built, too.

I junked the multi-player; I found it a waste of boot-space, weight and wiring. It also abraded the roof panel when stowed (perhaps yours isn't boot-mounted).

I wanted basic function combined with good sound and good looks but, without having to spend a bundle. I'm pleased with what I picked; it plugs straight into the existing loom and I like the green illumination and white LED screen (no flashing lights or graphic equalizer gizzmo shiite).

I'd consider MP3 input if I were you Paul; MP3 will handle more of your Mungo Jerry tracks than your multi-player ever will, and . . . it's a doddle.

If I have the Griff back next weekend I'll post some shots of mine. If I manage to install the new speakers (Pioneer TS-E1302i and TS-E1702i)in the same weekend I'll post those also.

This is my old Griff with the Pioneer single DIN Sat Nav unit. I also had an Pioneer multi CD and IPOD dock in the boot. All very easy to add with Pioneer

Hi Guys,

Thanks for all the advice and recommendations, I looked at all the units .
In the end I decided on this aftering talking to Pioneer and visiting
a few dealers.

I haven't got anything. Mrs FFG is using the front off my unit at the moment. Can't get the nice aluminium fronted one shown above so will keep looking. Just too amny other things going on.

I fitted the pioneer DEH-7000U yesterday. Bought from Halfrauds on special for £129.

Ipod cable wired into glovebox. Great sound.
