Hi all,

After disucssions last week on one thread - can't remeber which 3 of our cerbs were weighed at Mira sprint on the certified weighbridge last weekend. Mine was heaviest at 1245kg (with half a tank of fuel) and the other two were between 1225 and 1235 kg.

If we assume that I had 30 ltres of fuel and as fuel weighs circa 0.7 kg per litre my car's dry weight without me is about 1225kg. I do have aircon which adds about 20kg.

It looks as though those official TVR weight figures were as optimistic as thier power figures.

1100kilos, bone dry though... Infact, I think our handbook says 1150.

1215 kilos here wavey 97 Cerb, 20-25litres of fuel, half a tonne of fibreglass on the front right wing (repairs from harewood) and lightweight paintwork.... yeah you read that right - laquer is for pansys. hehethumbup

Edit, Jes, are you sure the lightest was 1225?? Im sure dad said it was 1215?

Edit, maybe it was 1225 actually, will double check - hang on.

Yours could have been 1215 - my mistake. When are you going to come sprinting and give your dad a run for his money?

Jes, I wanted to this season, I even started to build up confidence with the car... then the front suspension collapsed. I just dont quite feel comfortable in it yet, however... the bodyoff rebuild will be something I will be very heavily involved in. I reckon it'll help my confidence with the car (I certainly reckon I'll be able to sort it if I ever did break it) - so we shall see. smile

May even slap some R888's on and see if we can start fighting fair on handicap. wink Even when fitted with a "tail-slide" our car just isnt competitive, despite a croft performance that would have shamed 1b shod sagari last year. frown

Will see what next season brings, but rest assured - my pace will be laughably leisurely. hehethumbup

BCA - I recall your post about the suspension collapse but forget the detail.... something to do with braking force on the wishbone? Was there any conclusion about the cause, and what mod if any would stop it happening again?

I put mine on the weighbridge at my local tip a few weeks back just to satisfy curiosity and it was 1230kg (calculating for removal of fuel). Handbook says it is 1140kg, yeh right, and I don't have aircon.
There I've been quoting that the car weighs about the same as a modern Mini, power to weight and all that, and now it turns out I've been spouting out bull poo (alright, so some may say "what's new") but there you go.

Is there any weight difference between a "standard" cerb and a lightweight version...I have a lighweight but have never been able to find what the actual difference is if any or is yet more factory waffle.

You know when it's a bright day, you jump in the Cerb, the sun is shining - in your eyes....do you....

a) pull down the sun visor

b) put your sun glasses on

That my friend, is TVR making a lightweight.

Yes, the lightweights are heavier.

smile

Omerta - the front suspension collapse was down to the piss poor construction of the front wishbone by TVR. It was heavily plated by Trackcar to stop it happening again, but the split was I believe along the weld. frown Great cars, built to pathetic standards unfortunately. Something I will sort, rest assured. wink
