Hi all

After getting up this morning to find the following attached to the car

binned

I want to know what exactly the law says is a legal number plate, and what was this about getting a number plate that was legal for imports and having the regs kept in the car so I can tell them to go forth next time.

Also its nice to see at half past midnight they have nothing better to do than admire my car laugh

cheers all

Gav

Nod note: Gav - can you remove the PCs details too please?

Can't you just add on the bottom of it 'No there not - please see DVLA website on registration plate rules' ? and place it back in the window ??!!

Why hasn't he placed your Reg number on it in the top right corner?

www.dvla.gov.uk/media/pdf/leaflets/displayofnumberplates.pdf

thats the doc you want with the correct sizes - imported vehicles with restricted space for plate

Certain imported vehicles may be permitted to display number plates with smaller characters if:

The vehicle does not have European Community Whole Vehicle Type Approval
AND
The vehicle's construction/design cannot accomodate standard size number plates

Specifications for smaller sized plates (for certain imported vehicles)

Character Height
64mm
Character Width
44mm
Character Stroke
10mm
Space between characters
10mm

Clearly the space on the front bumper of the Monaro will not accomodate a full size plate and the car doesnt have full European type approval so tell pc plod to go back study his books some more or better yet go catch some criminals instead of looking at cars.

edit: as I understand it the rules only changed in the last couple of years re the BS number and the makers name so if you have for example an 04/05 car that wouldn't necessarily have been the case with the plates supplied with the car.

think Hex may have removed it from the scanned image, after all wasnt it him that was being stopped by armed response units on an almost daily basis because his car had been cloned and being used in armed hold ups?

And meanwhile, as the PC makes his worthwhile contribution to British society ................................................... the country has been raped and pillaged by con artists running the banking and financial system, our own bent MP's defrauding us out of our tax monies by fiddling their expenses. By disparate religious radicals trying to kill us all, and all manner of waifs and strays ripping off the social system. All in my humble opinion, of course. Rant over!!!! Count to 10 and breath!

Yeah I took out my reg number out on the scan. Though it wasnt me getting stopped all the time for armed robbery luckily.

Well it would apear my letters are 2mm smaller than allowed by the "restricted space" and I dont have any Bullste (BS) marks on.

So guess I will get some plates made up with the marks on and the added 2mm to the letters. rolleyes

Any recomendations where?

And yeah Gareth... please dont get me started. Its bad enough when the wife comes home telling me about her work (CPS)

I got pulled a few months ago in the monaro which had the motorcycle sized plates on it, which, now if the way I interpret the pdf is OK. The monaro wouldn't take a "normal" sized plate, cut down it might, but it doesn't say that is what you would have to do to accomodate the standard sized lettering. Will remember this next time get pulled over by the plod. Would also be sending this PC a print out of the document.

Thats all very well, but how do you fit a full size British plate into the gap on a CV8?

full size plates will rip off in car washes damaging the front bumper, Dave52, forum member no longer with us sadly, used to carry his broken plate about in the boot to show any annoying plod what happens when you use a full size plate. As long as the letters fit the import vehicle regs there's no reason to have a big flappy bit of plastic hanging off the front of your car.
