Guys,
When reverse is selected on my A8 the speakers give a constant tone for a couple of seconds and then the green light on the button starts flashing and there is no park assistance thereon. It is pretty annoying as in small spaces it is a bit of a beast to park!

Anyone got any ideas as to how to track down if this is a control box fault, a wiring problem or a sensor fault and if it is a sensor fault - which one? I would rather avoid going to see the dealer (see below). I am relatively handy with screwdrivers, multi-meters etc. as long as I have pictures to work with smile

Failing that, anyone got any recommendations of a decent indy near Saltaire?

The local dealer recently replaced the rear bumper after my wife scratched it quite badly and when it came back it was so badly done (they hadn't reconnected the fuel release, the bolts hadn't been correctly tightened so there were bad panel gaps) that their quality guy came out to look at the car and it had to have a bit more work done. This is in addition to very poor customer service during the quoting/estimating phase. In short, I don't want to take it back to them. Not because the dealer are bad, but the company that they outsource the repair work to are just appalling.

I'm curently having a similar issue sorted - our parking sensors have been intermittent for a while, and have now given up, with the same beeperage and flashing lights. If you put the ignition on, and have good hearing (!) you can walk round the car and put your ear up against each sensor you should be able to hear a high-pitched whine. If one of the sensors is silent, or substantially quieter than the others, then that explains it.

However, as in our case, the bumper could well be your problem - we found a duff sensor, so replaced it, only to find that didn't cure it at all. Turns out theres a short/break in the cable behind the front bumper where someone has previous routed the cable wrong and trapped it. Up until I bought the car it'd only had main dealer servicing... Thankfully my indy (not an Audi specialist, but someone I trust) doesn't charge the earth, and I'm doubly lucky the front end has to come off for the belt change next week, so he's going to fix the cable at the same time.

Hope that helps a bit - I'd personally take it up with the shoddy dealer and point out they have done crap work, and here's yet more evidence of their failure to fix the problme, then get it fixed by another dealer under warranty / goodwill.
