New Stickers for Old
How much is that old doggie sticker in the window?
It's 25 years since the famous car sticker "A Dog is For Life, Not Just for Christmas(tm)" first appeared on cars across the nation.
To celebrate this silver Jubilee, Dogs Trust, the UK's largest dog welfare charity, is calling on all 30.5 million* vehicles owners around Britain to take part in the charity's Car Sticker Amnesty.
Dogs Trust, the new name for NCDL, has sent out over 41 million car stickers since the famous slogan was invented in 1978. It is probably the UK's most popular car sticker with drivers seeing an estimated three stickers per half hour journey.
Most recently the slogan entered into the Oxford Dictionary of Quotations and is now a registered trademark after repeated plagiarism by other companies.
Dogs Trust Chief Executive and inventor of the famous slogan, Clarissa Baldwin, barked: "Although the slogan is over 25 years old, the message is still as poignant today as it was in 1978. Shockingly, people are still buying puppies as presents, particularly around the Christmas Season. Many of these are then dumped in the New Year .
"Last year there were over 111,000 stray dogs collected by local authorities. Please do show your support for our campaign by displaying our car sticker - or better yet, heed the words and don't buy a puppy as a Christmas present! "
Anyone wanting a new Dogs Trust car sticker should send in their old NCDL car sticker with a SAE to: Dogs Trust Car Sticker Amnesty, 17 Wakley Street, London, EC1V 7RQ. Or, if you don't have an old sticker, simply send in a SAE.
)turned up in our garden when she was about 4 months old. It was April '94 so we think she might have been a Christmas puppy that got dumped
We called the police/vet/animal shelters etc but no one claimed her. Now she's nearly 10 and we're so glad she found us
