The Black Bull nearby on Whitechapel Road was a decent pub, but sadly shut down just over a year ago. There is a mini-market that sells a reasonable range of beers on the north side of Whitechapel Road just along from Whitechapel Station, walking towards the direction of Tayyabs.

credit crunch eh?
I happen to think it's a very short-term phenomena, and in 18 months time the place will be dead, or closed. credit crunch eh?

It's a good restaurant. But not the best I have been to. (It is also very good value, which is relevant to your 'Credit Crunch' comment). But I think it is the 'trendiness' which is making it popular. Give it another year and the trendy set will have found somewhere else to be seen to be, and Tayyabs will die a death.

Why on earth would you think it'll be dead in 18 months time?? The place is a London institution.

Really? Has it really been around for 35 years? I thought it was a very dead east-end cafe about 2 years ago? Why on earth would you think it'll be dead in 18 months time?? The place is a London institution.
I certainly have only heard of it in the last two years or so, hence my cynicism.
If however, as you say, it has been around for 35 years then I'll agree - it being dead in 18 months seems pretty unlikely.
