I have a series 1 (1998) elise, I have drained the gearbox of oil but I need to check where the refill bolt is, the only place I can find that looks anything like a refill bolt also has the earth to the chassis on it, is this correct? also when I drained it there were 2 bolts with 3/8 square drive in any ideas?

The standard fill hole is inaccessible. There should be another hole towards the top of the box. I beleive some cars have a redundant speed sensors plugged into the hole otherwise just a bolt. Fill until oil is starting to dribble out.

Is the refill hole directly to the right hand side of the driveshaft on the nearside?

I dont want to sound sarcastic but should you not have found the refill bolt and undone that first. I mean what happens if you cant undo it now?

Problem was I was talking away to my son and emptied the gearbox instead of the engine. I was not a happy bunny. Live and learn

You can fill it through the redundant speedo drive on the diff housing, you can just about see it looking down on the box. Length of garden hose and a funnel works a treat smile

Needs 2.1 litres.

Sorted easy, took the rear diffuser off and it was pretty easy to get to next to the drive shaft.
