Reversing Lamp
Discussion
Hi All, your help needed. Vixen reversing/number plate light. Does anyone know the part number. Could someone have a look. It should be stamped underneath between the number plate light lens. It is very similar to a Lucas 469 lamp, so similar that I think it is a hybrid or one altered by TVR. Have seen some Lucas 469s on ebay for £60, pitted chrome etc may polish up! Seems alot to me.
Thanks in advance.
Thanks in advance.
Isn't it just one of these with the back fitted internally:-

Certainly looks the same with the central reversing light.
Or slightly cheaper here (item 518) :-

I took mine off this morning and it has L469 on it.
I believe they were fitted to Jaguar XK150's. You can get new ones and there appears to be 2 types. One being made from brass (the expensive one). I don't know what metal the other is made from but it is a lot cheaper.
I hope that helps

Thankks for the replies guys. It looks like its a Lucas 469, but my concern was that the front chrome section has to sit flat on a Vixen with a gasket to seal, whereas on other cars the whole unit is bolted on. The gasket is the key. Is it there in the unit or is it a special for TVR?

Not sure what you mean. There's no gasket between the body and the light on mine. nwarner said:

Me too. The rear of the holder sits in a recess on my Vixen so the whole unit is fitted, without a 'gasket'. As the rear half is sunk into the recess I suppose it appears like only the front cover is flush.Does the rear of your car have a recess for the lamp? If not, has it been filled in or fitted with a different style lamp from the start?
Hope that helps!
Paul.
its not as 100% straighforward as this but generally speaking S2 vixens had a deep recess for the lucas combined light. The S3 had a very shallow recess, the same shape but very shallow and was fitted with a different number plate light, a la Mini and seperate reversing lights. I suspect they either ran out of the combined lights or found the later option a cheaper one.
Incidentally the S2 type lights were fitted to Rover 90/100/110,s the last option burried in a big chrome lump and so usually in better condition. All you need to do now is find someone breaking a Rover 110.
also fitted to various Allards, Astons, Jensons,Lagondas, Lea Francis,Rileys, MG T series and Singers to name but a few. Should be easy to find a mint used one then lol

there was never a reversing light switch on the gearbox, it was a manual switch on the dash labelled "reverse". The lights were Lucas white glass domed lights on the back panel either side of the number plate, but all TVR,s are not the same
As Steve says "all TVR,s are not the same". Mine's an S3 and has the Lucas L469 reversing light and it has a 3 rail 2000E gearbox with a reversing light switch.Gassing Station | TVR Classics | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
