MK4 Golf door won't open!

The passenger front door refuses to open on my Golf. When you unlock the car, the other three doors unlock OK, but the button on the n/s/f doesn't come up, as if its deadlocked. VW told me its a common problem with the MK4 door latches. Is this true, and how do you get it open to fix?

It's a common Mk4 problem, it is very likely the door actuator that has gone, the solder goes on it and it loses connection to the main ECU.

You can actually sometimes get it open by a good thump near the door handle. (honest! )

you have to get the door card off im afraid

you'll most likely need a new door card and lock module
