Hi all,
I have a Holley 8007 carb fitted to a Essex V6 its not been run for years, the engines fuel starved (pops and splutters when petrol down carb, the carbs getting fuel (inlet pipes pushing out fuel on engine turn over) but theres no fuel present when the fuel level plugs taken out on both sides/bowls
An ideas what to take apart first ?
Cheers

It will probably all need a good strip and clean but in my experience the needle valve operated by the float is a hot favourite for getting stuck. If you don't get a squirt of fuel out of the pump jet (pic) when you snap the throttle open the float chamber is probably empty.

good article on holley overhaul here

Found this while searching, gives a good idea how these are put together.

Found that my bowl /floats are OK, looked like they where dry cos had the car on the P*ss (been doing rear bearings), bowls are full and gives squirt into primary when accel lver is pushed fully in. Still no petrol getting through on normal running.

Any Ideas ? I think it might be the jets blocked (cos of old bowl varnish?), if I take of the floats can the jets be reached and what would be a good tool to unblock them ? (piece of wire maybe)
Cheers

Just so you know, WOT is activated by the power valves opening. The mains should be active in the usual way after the throttle has past the transition slot. Make sure the fuel levels aren't low as this can delay the main jets from working smoothly. You have fuel to the accel pump squirt so there should be fuel to the mains. I'd use an air line to blow through the circuits. Oh, check the emulsifier tubes at the top of the carb aren't blocked and that your engine's producing strong vacuum. Any air leaks could delay the mains coming on line.

Good series of video's - The next one has a nice explanation about selecting the correct power valve.

NOT a piece of wire! Too easy to enlarge the precisely-sized hole... Leave them to soak in acetone or trichloroethane... If they are particularly badly gunked up it's OK to poke them through with a splinter of soft wood.

Can they be removed by just taking off the float bowls or do you have to strip it down more ? Just thinking about what gaskets I need to order.

Unbolt the float bowls and prise them off the carb carefully, you may save the gaskets if you're lucky. If the gaskets get destroyed then you can order reusable gaskets for the future from Real Steel.

Got the carb going OK with a good strip down and rebuild.
Anybody know a spares supplier for these in the North East ? get board waiting round for spares and dont mind a drive to pick them up.
Cheers
