could I buy a 2nd bike on C2W scheme

Just wondered, how many bikes can you buy on the cycle to work scheme, if for example some days I fancy going to work off road and other days on the road?

i think you can if you prove you need to take a different route in the summer to winter - i.e. in the summer its better to take a shorter off road route that isnt passable/too muddy in the winter

The rules to our scheme said that the bike you bought needed to be used for 50% of the time as part of your journey to work.

However, that's assuming they check, which they won't.

Strictly speaking it should be a single bike and for your use only to get to work. However I know someone who spent £1000 on a 2x£500 bikes, one each for himself and his wife at Halfords through the scheme. I say go for it. You can always say "you made a mistake" if you are caught out (not that the Telegraph is really going to be that interested in this as a scoop).

So get stuck in! This is one of the only chances that us lowly electorate can get a bit of tax back from Gordon.

You can buy two bikes on the C2W scheme. Justify either by different routes with different requirements (as you have), winter/summer, or two cycle legs either side of a train commute.

I tried to do this and the man said no.

So instead I bought £500 worth of mountain bike parts and a £500 road bike.

Now I can off road and on road.

I did it through Evans though
