A Very Sad DAY
Discussion
Well the time has come for the old sport 160 to leave my side. I've owned it now for 6 years now!!!! Thats a long time with an S1 exspecially when it was my daily driver for 4 years. Its a love/hate relationship with that car but its enjoyed plenty of BOLOC outings and the pleasures of the midland roads not to mention some good times on the track. I may shed a tear as it leaves but I know its the right decision. Why is it so hard to sell a Lotus, god dam it !!!!!!! These things get under your skin.
Its sold fast and I got the full asking price which is nice. Its going to a good home in Germany and the owner promises me that its going to be given the time of its life on regular trips to the ring !
Just waiting for him to arrive with a van and trailer.
As for a replacement. I am not decided yet. I have tried an Exige S and like it a lot but I could do with a bit more space so may go down the german power horse road with a view to an RS6 Estate or possibly an E55 AMG (one of the 5.5 ltre supercharged jobbies), or maybe a TVR. We already have a TVR Cerbera in the family so I could focus my energy on that and get the nice everyday German motor. Really need to make my mind up and try a couple of things as that lot are like chalk and cheese. I know I will be back in a Lotus again at some point, maybe an Evora, but probably when I have more funds to play with.
So long Lotus people, Its been fun ! Catch up with some of you on track......

I will miss it sooooooooo much. When I took him out for a drive in it, I thought I must be mad to sell this !!!! Life is too short though. I need to sample more cars! !!!!!

piooly,
I'm thinking of stepping into a cerbera from the elise. Is that a stupid move, or will it be grin city? As you've had access to both input would be appreciated
As for your sale, I'm sure you'll find another car to amuse you, nice 160 though!

Yes it will be grin city every time you put your foot down !!! If its running standard suspension, get some Nitrons fitted to it and have a good Geo done. Brakes are very good too. On track they are a hoot. Even more fun in one way than the elise. You have to tip toe around because of so much power where as in the elise you can just nail it everywhere. Pace wish they are a good match for an S2 exige S round track. Very different but you will enjoy it. Go for it. I am tempted to get a TVR. Really want some V8 thrust !!!I'm thinking of stepping into a cerbera from the elise. Is that a stupid move, or will it be grin city? As you've had access to both input would be appreciated

Excellent, one I have my eye on has nitrons already
That is good to hear, as I was worried I'd not enjoy the handling so much - I really miss out and out power in my elise, so a cerby seems the best way to satisfy that.... that said, it's a terrifying (financial) prospect, I'm having to give it some serious thought
Cheers,
Stu

If you dont mind a bit of DIY then the costs dont need to be scary. Just look after it well and ideally keep it in a garage as a lot of problems can be water related. It does feel very different to drive to the elise. In the elise you feel part of the car, in the cerb, its more like a passenger in it. Have to drive one to know what I mean. Still good though ! Which engine are you looking at? the 4.2 and 4.5 AJP8's are the best, unlike speed 6's. 4.5 is the most reliable engine due to design mods over the orignal 4.2, and it feels a fair bit quicker....

piooly,
(sorry for taking OT)
It would be a 4.2 with rebuild (due to crank snap worry) or a 4.5. The speed 6's don't interest me too much and fill me with fear! (If I get a s6, it'll be a tuscan). From what I've read in the cerby forum peeps seem to think the 4.2 / 4.5 differences are overegged, unless the 4.5 is decatted+remapped there isn't much in it.

Well thats pokies, the 4.5 is noticably quicker than the 4.2. The 4.2 is sh#t this car is fast, the 4.5 is holy cr#p this is quick if you know what I mean. Yes with de-cat and a remap the 4.5 goes like pit bull on E numbers. Its also a stronger engine. I know which one I would go for........(sorry for taking OT)

I drove FlyingBanana's (from seloc) nitron'd s160 at an activity day. Jumping into it, never having driven a S1 in my life, I was 2.5secs round the top course than in my own s2111s. Fitted me like a glove that s1, steering by throttle (rather than understeer by design in my car) made it a joy.

Plenty more cars in the sea though, chap!
