IWC Spitfire Chrono or Moon Watch
Discussion
If you go for a speedie, buy it on the bracelet and get a strap for it separately (Hirsch straps are great quality and reasonably priced).
Much cheaper way round of doing it than buying on a strap and then one day deciding it would be nice to put it on a bracelet.
All this exclusivity stuff gets on my nerves - were talking tiny degrees of difference here, an Omega might be less exclusive than some other brands but how many people can afford to throw £2K or so on a watch!!
Buy what you like when you see them side by side

Tried a Super Ocean Heritage last week on black rubber strap, nearly bought it until I came to my senses and realised it was nigh on the same as the PO.
Lovely watch but just too similar to what I have got already
I am after something not to dressy but sort of classic
BTW Mrs Lifts thought the Spitfire ‘a bit old manish’!
I do like the display back on the Speedmaster
Is the IWC a step up from the Omega?

You may get some opinions to that question but not a definitive answer. IWC as a brand is seeing a marked return to form at the moment whereas the Omega Speedmaster has the historical connection.Omega is an obvious choice where the Speedmaster is an instantly recognisable design icon.
IWC is understated class from a manufacturer with a long respected history.
Not to worried about resale, more thinking about creating an heirloom
Buy on a bracelet then fit a strap, display back, manual wind no need for a watchwinder save a bit of cash,
Think I am talking my self into the Speedmaster
Any strap recommendations

Both are on my wish list.
I like the Speedie, but I do wonder if it weren't for the NASA heritage if it would be anything special.
The Spitfire Chrono just somehow looks great, despite being understated to the point of being bland.
I think the appeal of the Speedie would wear off after I'd got used to looking at it - the IWC would still look good in 6 months time.

Both lovely pieces.
Stand to be corrected but don't think the Speedmaster Professional has a sapphire crystal. Mine was Hesalite & I think all the Professional's are.
Anyone know different?
They do both. The traditional speedy with the hesalite and solid back, and one with a sapphire crystal and display back. Stand to be corrected but don't think the Speedmaster Professional has a sapphire crystal. Mine was Hesalite & I think all the Professional's are.

Edited to add pic.

You'd expect both to be good time keepers and if it helps I can confirm that my Spitfire chrono keeps perfect time. It lost a minute a month to start with but I haven't adjusted it now for several months. I've had it two years and get comments from watch lovers who know what they are looking at - it isn't a watch that shouts out what it is. Just one thing. The sizing of the bracelet doesn't have micro adjustment on the clasp. Mine is either a tad tight or a fraction loose if I put a link back in.
I'd go for an IWC Spitfire Chrono before a speedy, especially if you have a PO already. The two Omegas aren't vastly different looking watches especially around the case and lugs. I'd want to feel the watches were a bit more different when I alternated them.
The Speedy pro is a fantastic watch but to me the spitfire chrono is in a different league. If you get bored you could sell the IWC and still buy 2 used speedmaster pro's.
If you are looking at long term I'd probably sell the PO and get both the speedy and the IWC spitfire chrono.

Hmmmm very interesting. I have seamaster and recently bought speedmaster with display back (stunning) I have today been looking at iwc spitfire chrono. I honestly belive that the iwc is prob a nicer watch overall but you can't beat a speedy when it comes to chrono I'm sorry I am deffo gonna buy a iwc but the speedy is with me till the end. Stunning
Moon watch or Spitfire, but which is better………only one way to find out………........FIGHT
Checked them both out on Saturday, spent quite a time trying them on and um-ing and ah-ing about each one.
The winner was………. The Spitfire
If I didn’t have the PO the Speedmaster would have been my choice, probably.
As someone said it did seem quite similar looking i.e. black face, bezel and shape also surprisingly light compared with my PO
I just found the way the dials are set into the face and the use matt and polished finish of the face and the day / date, reminded me of an old Timex I had about 30 odd years ago.
15% off the price so well pleased with it, thanks for you assistance
