hi, i'm currently thinking of getting a 3.0 capri ghia that i went to view just last night, its going to be a bit of a project, but dont mind, but there is one thing that i'm really not sure about is the fact that it is an automatic, i have never driven one before, and don't know if i'm likely to get loads of problems with it, and if i do how different they are to replace/fix

i already have a 2.0 laser but this needs a bit of work too i'm not sure if i should just focus on that or get the 3.0 ghia and focus all my time and money on that instead.
what do people reakon?

Go for it! If it's all original then at least you know with an automatic it hasn't been thrashed into the weeds as it'll change up before the redline & you'll find the engine will be in top condition! Had a few autos & got to say, i love 'em! Soon get used to the lazy driving style!!

Is that the old Essex V6? I think an automatic would suit that as it's quite a lazy, relatively torquey engine although not a great engine in standard form as they have a bit of a dislike of revs despite being quite short stroke. They can be enhanced a fair bit through better heads, better breathing, etc.

I know someone who had a Scimitar and did that, got rid of the flat spots, made it a bit brisker and more willing to rev although I can't remember exactly the full story of what his mods were.

Were you thinking of doing any tuning?
