Is this E36 good value? Any help would be good!
Discussion
I'm looking to buy a little run around and was wondering if a particular car I am looking at sounds like a fair price?
I posted a similar type post in the Ferrari section (I was asking what my 360 was worth and the post disappeared, no emails, nothing. So I'm thinking I maybe broke some posting rules, so this time I will do it a bit differently)
Anyway., the car I am looking at is a E36 328i Sport, 95 on a N plate with 155k on the clock. It doesn't have all the history, but a good enough amount. It is blue with grey leather and overall the car looks immaculate. The dealer is asking £2800, is that a fair price?
Spec as follows:
Cd player
Leather
M3 alloys
Rear spolier
Thank you.

Sounds rather expensive to me. I would value it around £1700 to £2200 if its imaculate.
High miles & not full history is a no no unless you know what to look for in a car.
I bought my 98 sport with one owner, 120k & full history for £2200. About right i think.
It doesnt mean it is a bad car though, 155k is really not a problem if it has been taken care of.
A sport of that year is pre facelift, ie different grills & side repeaters. The spec you list is all standard stuff with a sport except the wheels. If you take the plunge check it has not got
the old nikasil engine still, most of these have been replaced under warantee but a few slipped through.

At that age it will have the Nikasil engine (unless its been replaced) which is a time bomb, incomplete history and a hilarious price tag !!!
I just paid £1800 for an immaculate '98 sport with 125k and full history. So that one sounds like a terrible buy tbh.
Is a Nikasil engine really such a time bomb? I just paid £1800 for an immaculate '98 sport with 125k and full history. So that one sounds like a terrible buy tbh.
I'd have thought that if it's still running after 14 years and with 155k on it, then it will keep running, especially since the high sulphur petrol which caused the problems was phased out a number of years ago.

They can go at anytime, any miles.
I bought a 328i SE saloon with 115k, climate with cloth interior. It had one prior owner, has a FSH througha BMW Main Dealer and, although an early 1998 car, had the block replaced in 1998 so no Nikasil issues - it is as near as damn it perfect inside and out and I paid £1400 for it. It is going brilliantly and I would happily have another.
