Hi all

We are coming up to your fair country from next Friday and early the following week are planning on nipping over to the Isle of Skye for the day.

Could anyone please advise what the ground clearance is upon boarding and getting off the Skye Ferry as our car is fairly low slung?

Cheers

Graham

There is a bridge now as well........but i'm pretty sure you'll get your car on, if i remember right it was a pretty flat on/off.

Notwithstanding there is a free bridge these days...

Last time I took the Gleneig ferry I grounded my Elise getting on/off and the roads on the Skye side from the ferry port are poor quality.

Unless you *really want to arrive on the water, I'd take the bridge.

We kinda thought we would take the ferry one way and the bridge the other (just for novelty value).

I'm a little higher off the ground than the Elise but I appreciate your advice...

cheers

I've been on 6 Cal Mac ferries this month, none of which could I have done in an Elise. I HIGHLY recommend you contact them www.calmac.co.uk and ask for advice.

...or just use the bridge!

Didn't even think about it but I've booked the Elise onto the ferry for the first time next weekend. We're heading over to Tiree. Better check it out. Thanks for the heads up.

I was in the queue on North Uist on Tuesday and a Porker C2 was having trouble, so they got out a rope, which just gave enough height so that it didn't ground. But slopes vary. I was also on Eriskay this week and the angle of the slope would have cruicified my Aston!

You won't have a chance in a DB7 as the nose is considerably longer and lower than on a Vantage.

Also depends on the state of the tide. If tide is out, the angle of transition from the boarding ramp to the ferry can be problematic.

Thanks all - I think our fate is sealed! smile

Given the local advice I think we will 'bridge' it across both ways

Cheers all - PH to the rescue again thumbup

Have been on various ferries over the years in my Elise, lowered rideheight (10cm at the front), and never suffered any more than a grounded out number plate . . . Mull, Skye, Corran all no problems . . . it does depend on the tide BUT it also depends on taking the ramp at the correct angle to minimise probems . . . I wouldn't hesitate myself . . . also it's clear to me that the staff will usually help if you have a problem . . . always tried with me but I just drove through the crunch knowing it was only the plate anyway . . . if you're a 'polisher' you may not want to do that of course ;-)

Cheers Fergus thumbup

We arnt always polishers but I am putting her on the market after the trip so best not take too many risks smile

I emailed the Ferry company and advised them of my car and they replied

"No problem, would have been in a Zonda or something, we bring the ferry further up the slip so the ramps are almost level!"

So maybe not too much of problem then...

That is such a cool reply. I love the fact that someone at the ferry company knows about Zondas.

With Fergus on this one - never had any issues with my Elise, or in the past Atom, on the Ferry's. In fact the staff have been at pains to be as helpful as they can :0)
