Beware all you guys running round in Vectra or similar fitted with the 1.9 turbo diesel engine (Fiat)
When the alternator packs in, which it will, fine if you have warranty but if you are not careful you could get stuffed for a bill of around 600 quid. The alternator which also comprises the vacuum pump for the braking system is expensive circa 400 notes. This is a known issue as many have been replaced under warranty and consequently VX has reduced the item cost to 105.00
Luckily I knew about this having already had one replaced previously. However when another one went on a different vehicle, it didn't preclude a protracted discussion with some arse, with enormouse attitude at a South West Stealership who point blank refused to carry out the repairs at the correct price. He still refused to see sense even when he was shown the invoice from the other dealer based in Eastbourne. He was still insisting it was going to be over 400.00 for the part plus fitting and VAT. Thankfully after two visits to this dealer another chap tapped at the computer and said, "Oh yes we can do this" whereupon the absolute t**t slunk off without an apology.
No wonder some dealers have got terrible reputations.
