Just fitted David Beer's two stage cooling system. Set up on drive way ( neighbours loved me rolleyes ) full speed 88 ish on gauge, half speed 80 ish on gauge. Cut in and out well several times without a problem.
Set off to try it on the road. Fans didn't cut in at all and the otter switch system took over at just above 92. Back to drive and the two stage is working again. scratchchin

Called Mr Beer for advice but his office isn't open. Mon - Fri only frown
Do you guys think the sensors are being air cooled when moving and stopping them getting to the set temps?
The sensors are positioned on the rad out hose, bottom, off side and wrapped in the heatsheild providied.

Where did you fit the sensors?

I think they would work better if attatched to the steel pipes rather than the rubber hose, the rubber hose giving a false heat reading compared to the steel pipes

Agreed, they would work far better strapped to the steel pipe over the rack. Rubber hoses will give a lot of insulation and as soon as there's any air flow you will get a false reading.

Make sure they're strapped down to the pipe reasonably firmly but not enough to crush them (cable ties done up tight are ample).

I don't know anything about the parts you have fitted but surely a temp sensor would need fitting to the inlet pipe to the radiator not the outlet as this will be the coolest point when the car is moving!! hence the fans not kicking in when the temp gauge says 92 as the outlet hose from the radiator will have cooled the water down by quite a few deg.

By sensing the output it's much quicker to respond.

Mine are wrapped up on the "silicone" hose smile not set to the markings on the control box but fiddled with over a shortish time period & run perfectly biggrin

David while your on here smile can i have a new LED & the a fool proof guide to getting the wires in the right place in the relay or where ever they end up please hehe

Cash or usual charity donation to follow biggrin or if you trust me & can tell what to buy & where to connect the wirey bits i'll still stick some cash in a charity pot biggrin

Cheers mate

I did, a while ago, haven't bothered about it really because i know its only for info...

One of the reasons i haven't got round to chasing up is hate disturbing wires down in footwell, i've pulled a few about a bit to hard before frown hence the need to sort it out rolleyes

I'll give you a bell next week when i have the footwell area dismantled so i can tell you what wires i've broken hehe

That will be after i have all the new LeMans stickers on though bounce

Raveboy... I'm not quite as useless as i made out smile if you need a word or want to pop round & mess about with it at mine let me know thumbup

The purpose of the sensor is to bring the fans in when there is not enough ram air flow. The way to sense this is at the radiator outlet - if the water is coming out cool then obviously you have enough air flow and don't need the fans. When the ram air is insufficient the water comes out hot telling you you need the fans. By sensing like this you can bring the fans in as soon as they're needed (insufficient ram air flow) rather than waiting for the whole engine to heat up as a result.

I'll see how it goes tomorrow but may take you up on the offer!

Mine are touching each other. Maybe that's the problem!

Mr Beer, I'll give you a call on your mobile. Won't be too early, been on the drink tonight biggrin

Can't think why touching would make any difference - they're all at the same temperature. The problem in your case I suspect is that they've got rubber hose insulating them from the coolant. Attach to a metal pipe and they will have far better thermal contact and give a better reading.

Update:
I moved the sensors to the metal pipe as suggested and went through the set up at idle again. All good.
Went out on a long run and it's great. No change from idle cut in and out temps biggrin
Happy bunny now.
May need slight adjustment over the next few runs to get it exactly where I'm comfortable but that's easily done.
In addition to moving the sensors I also taped the heatsheild at both ends so no air could get to the sensors. Maybe a bit belt and braces biggrin

Thanks for all your help thumbup

Out of interest what are your settings? Did you disconnect the otter?

75 full 65 half ish smile I've found that a very small movement make a big difference on the gauge.
Works really well, thank you.

Otter still connected.
